What should the husband do? How can he find out who is the real father? We have heard that as long as the couple was married at any time during the pregnancy the married husband will be named the father of the child (and have to pay support). How can the ex-husband get a DNA test done? The hospital here says they 'do not do them there' and to 'call Medicaid'. There is a chance the ex-husband won't even know when or where the baby is born. Does he have 'six months' to deny paternity? Is it incredible hard to get husbands name off the birth certificate once ex-wife puts it on?
And what if the divorce isn't even final when the baby is born?

Whoa! That woman sounds like a real *****. I would not want to be in his shoes. My advice is that he get a lawyer to discuss this with. Also, if he has to pay for the kid, he is entitled to have visitation with it. He can take the baby for a DNA test himself.

Ask for a Paternity test BEFORE the baby leaves the hospital. Contact an Attorney ASAP. Do NOT sign anything until the test results are in. If the man can show proof that he was NOT with the woman when the child was conceived then a DNA would be done by the court ordering it,but to save headaches for everyone involved, have the Paternity test done while everybody is still in the hospital. My nephew is going through the same exact thing, but he is NOT married to the pregnant woman, but she is claiming he is the father,so they are waiting for the baby to be born to find out,but if she puts him on the birth certificate the only way he can get it removed is by the Paternity test. Sorry sometimes guys have to go through this kind of thing. But more importantly it is bad that a baby has to be put through it too. Good luck.

He needs to consult an attorney especially if he feels there is a possibility that the baby is not his. In most states they will not finalize a divorce if a baby is pending delivery. Once the baby is born, he can have a Paternity test done. Be prepared they are about $700, but if it ends up not being his, he will save himself alot in other court costs and ficticiuos child support in the long run.

Hubby’s name will likely automatically be listed on the birth certificate as the father because he is the presumed father (since he was married to Mom when she got pregnant). You don’t need—or want—to get divorced until the baby is born. When you file for the divorce, you will need to dispute paternity and request a dna test. The court will order one and if you’re not the father, they will order that your name be removed from the birth certificate and you will not be responsible for child support. *Have an attorney handle this for you!*

Different states have different laws governing this.

The hospital typically does not do the DNA test, but you can go to a place like DNA diagnostics to get one done. If you are really questioning, it is best to contact an attorney in your state to help you out with the divorce and denial of paternity. For most states, the husband is the presumed father unless otherwise shown not to be by DNA test.

Best thing to do.... contact a family law attorney in your area for more advice on your legal rights.

As soon as that baby is born they can do a swab DNA test on that baby and him and i don't know what state y'all are from but here the father is supposed to sign the birth certificate at the hospital if in fact he thinks he's the father.

The rules might be different where you are ...but here the father has to sign the birth certificate with a wtiness ...Not just the mother filling it in
..So if he refuses to sign they will put unknown (which can be filled in at a later date)

Anyway that might not help if your rules are different than ours
