I would bring the bathroom items (her favorite shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrush, hair brush, razor, etc.). I would also bring some lotion to rub her feet with. I would also bring a book or magazine to help pass time during the labor and after the baby is born. I would bring some CDs (maybe some relaxation music) and a portable CD player. It will help relax her. I would bring her favorite pillow from home, comfy clothes for her for after the baby is born, baby's clothes, warm socks, non-slip slippers for her. Maybe a blanket from home. I would bring the camcorder and camera and lots of film. I would bring snacks but DO NOT take them out until AFTER the baby is born. haha Also, my husband bought some "It's a Girl" cigars for after our daughter was born. OH! If your wife is going to breastfeed, bring the breastpump and nursing bras. If she is going to bottle-feed, bring the bottles she plans on using. I would bring a speial outfit for the baby for the day they are going home, the hospital usually takes pictures the last day. One thing that I made sure I brought to the hospital was the baby book, so I could record special moments. Also, a good idea to do is bring a notebook and pens so you and your wife can write a letter to each other describing how you feel at that time before and after the baby is born and also write a letter (from each of you) to the baby describing the anxiety and excitement and nervousness. Just some ideas! Oh! My sister brought some sticky heat pads things for me to put on my back to help with the labor pains. That really helped. Also, don't forget the list of numbers of family members and friends to call to announce the birth of the baby. I hope this helped! Good luck and CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One more thing, (I know I am yakking) you can search online or ask the hospital for a list of items to bring. God bless!

No, this is your baby and your delivery--they cannot tell you how it's going to be. If you aren't happy with the hospital you visited then don't go there. She can't tell you where you have to go or that you can't have medication. Even if the other one is already "booked", go there anyway when you are in labor! The cannot turn you away because you don't have an "appointment". They have no way of knowing when you or any of those other women will go into labor--they just try to do that so they can be more prepared for the expected number of patients, but that's their problem not yours. I am 38 weeks now and plan to breastfeed, but if you don't want to then tell that midwife that it's your body and your baby and you'll do what you please whether she likes it or not. I can't believe how pushy she is being! Another plus to showing up at the other hospital--you won't get stuck with that woman delivering your baby. Good luck to you! :)

Toothpaste, deodorant, extra underwear, hairbrush, makeup, body lotion, baby lotion and powder. Depending on your insurance, possibly Vaseline, if it's a boy and don't forget to bring telephone numbers for all you may wish to call. Haven't had to do this lately, but I do know the hospital will send an itemized bill. Check ahead with that section of the hospital. Your wife is probably pre-registered. Find out if you can purchase the sitz-bath for her. I guess they still use them. Most pharmacies should carry them. You wouldn't believe what the hospitals charge!! Alot of people opt to bring their own supplies. If you do this, make them aware. It's been 17 years, but most of the above is necessary, I think.. Possibly a mild laxative for her. Used to be they wouldn't let you go home until a BM. I'm sure between now and then you will think of more items. Good luck to both of you and your new addition!!

If you're having a boy, take lots of change of clothes. My son peed/pooped through five outfits I brought and I was left with the hospital shirts they give you. Slippers and a robe in case she has to walk the halls in a revealing hospital gown. Things to shower with and toiletries. After my first there was no way I could get up to take a shower but after my second baby I did and was so glad I brought things to clean up with. Maybe a calling card if your wife wants to call people from the hospital (they don't usually allow cel phones inside). Most important is camera with good batteries and film.

after 5 kids ( no. 6 on the way) my husband would say bring something for you to do magazine ,cd player. whatever; something to massage her back with cause she will need it, extra pillows cause the hospital never has any and most importantly make sure that you know the way that she wants this delivery to go i.e does she want to walk , no vistors , a quiet room because she will not be able to communicate these things once active labor kicks in and also make sure that the hospital staff knows to ask you and not her questions once active labor starts. everything else you can get after the baby is here and your wife falls asleep cause she will .

A few others.... lotion or cream for dad to massage mom, a massager or tennis balls in a sock to rub on the lower back.(Check with your hospital to see if they allow you to plug items into the wall. Reason - radios and vibrating massagers may need to be plugged in.) You may want to bring your own pillow. If you are breastfeeding you may want to bring a couple of breast pads - most times the milk doesn't come in until the 3rd or 4th day but they are still handy. You may want to bring extra hair ties and maybe your make-up if you're concerned about pictures, though you may not be at the time! Ask your hospital if they have a list that may help you. Good luck and take care!!

You should bring some pillows from home.Just to make her feel more comfy. Labor is a hard thing and anything that makes you feel just the slightest bit better is awsome. I would also have her bring some comfy underwear and pajamas. The hospital gowns are so uncomforatable. Please don't bring the snacks...for her sake. I remember myhubby was eating at my bedside and I wasn't allowed to eat, I could have killed him. Just don;t forget the camera. Congradulations on the new baby. Have a great New Year. :)

Comfy clothes for post-partum! She doesn't have to stay in that icky gown after the baby is born and I felt SOOO much better after getting into real clothes. I felt more at home and so much more comfortable. Also, have her bring some dark colored undies that you don't mind getting ruined... Oh, and I brought our Boppy pillow and it made those first awkward tries at breastfeeding a lot easier. Will the baby be cloth diapered? Because its actually kind of fun to try on all the new diapers. LOL But if not, they supply 'sposies. Oh, and of course, bring your own stuff for showering - bring yours too especially if you plan on staying the night with her and the baby, its perfectly fine for you to shower in her postpartum bathroom. :)

The one thing that I did take with me that was very handy was a portable CD player.... after awhile the beeps and sounds on the hospital rooms (both during labor and after) got very bothersome... it was nice to have some soft soothing music in the background. Even my doc agreed......
I wish I had taken a scarf to tie my hair up with.... everyone was taking pictures and after 30+ hours of labor I wasnt looking so hot! Not to mention... you might not get a shower the first day or so depending on if you have stitches or not.
Good Luck!
