Both of my son's ( 5 years old and now the six month old) were on Nutramigen formula. Both supposedly for milk allergy and for GERD (acid reflux) But being on the formula did nothing to improve the vomitting accociated with these conditions. We quit giving the 6 month old the Nutramigen and put him back on a milk based formula.( the five year old was never changed back to anything when he was an infant). He ( the six month old) is doing excellent now. I think the Nutramigen was causing more harm than good. It's nasty ( it's basically oil and water and really stinks) and way overpriced. Any opinions or will someone else share thier experiance with this??????

OMG, that sounds exactly how my son was when he got switched to Ailimentum(same stuff just made by similac). My son was switched to it when he was 3 months and did not improve, and I do beleive it made my son worse also so I switched him back to Enfamil when he was 6 months also. My son also has really bad relfux, he's 11 months and still spits up occasionally. Keep him on the milk based stuff it saves you money and isnt helping. Good luck the spitting up will stop some day!

I feel the complete opposite of you....Nutramigen formula for our daughter was liquid gold. For the longest time all she would do is scream and cry. She very rarely was having a bowl movement and she was extremely gassy. As soon as we put her on Nutramigen she became sooooooooooooooo much better. The fussiness stopped and she is a really happy baby. She too has acid reflux and as for that she still spits up a lot. However, she is on a medication called Axid which helps prevent the burning sensation when she does spit up. I did have her on Similac Ailmentium but that only seemed to make her worse. I LOVE Nutramigen even though it does smell bad and make her poops smell worse, she is the happy baby that I knew she could be. It is worth all the money in the world if my baby is not in pain.

My son was on the Nutramigen and you are right it is way over priced and it didn't really stop the acid reflux. The pediatrician I used was an old one ( he was mine when I was a baby ) and he finally had me give him just regular 2% milk. It worked a lot better and he ate better being off the formula which cut down on the spitting up.

My son had severe GERD until he was 2. We tried Prosobee, Nutramigen, Isomil...you name it, we tried it. Then going through the heaping scoops of rice cereal in them cloggin the nipples and making my son (and me) frustrated; when they all produced the same end result...constant vomiting. He was getting such little nutrients that he had to go in for weekly weight checks to make sure he wasn't losing weight. (He weighed 16 lb when he was a year old) His pediatrician finally suggested Enfamil AR. That was the best formula! He still had some spitting up...but, definately nothing like when he was on the other stuff. I would highly recommend Enfamil AR!

The new Nutramigen is better than the older one, or there is Alamentum by similac, if vomiting is a problem try Enfamil AR, it has a consistency more like wet cornstarch.

It does have a peculiar and wonderful scent and flavor...and it relatively is expensive... It does scent plenty distinctive than different formula. it is not a delightful scent...to me it relatively is kinda "nutty" (in no longer a great way)...and the flavor is bitter. Is it merely to minimize gasoline? because of the fact it it is the clarification i might reassess...Nutramigen is for a milk protein hypersensitivity. of course if the gasoline is linked with a milk protein hypersensitivity than sure...Nutramigen could be magnificent. yet generally there are extra indications than gasoline... - dermis inflammation (eczema), extreme fussiness, blood interior the stool etc...
