Is it because of their upbringing or TV programs? There are so many broken homes with one parent having to support and see to the children's upbringing. Could the lack of values be a big part of the youth violence?

There are a bunch of factors that could impact an individual to commit murder, but all of them lead to one result: destruction of the individual prior to any murders committed. People only destroy life when they don't have it -- they see others having and enjoying something they don't have, and they don't want others to have that, so they destroy life because they don't have it. To stop this from occurring, I think we need to ensure that every person "has life," or maybe more so the ability to live.

The ability to live life to the fullest can be lost by the factors you mentioned above -- violent media, lack of attention/support. If you think about it, it's all about a lack of love. The love can be felt, but it's not much to another person unless it's conveyed in a way that can be understood, and that way will vary based on the differences among people.

There are a bunch of other arguments I can provide, but I think you understand my point. If you want to make a positive difference, just do what you can here and now. You have to start with something small before it can grow bigger. And just believe that you can make a difference. It kinda reminds me of something my religion teacher told me, "If you truly believe in something, nothing else will matter." Another quote, from a 6/7 grade teacher -- "Anyone can be negative, that's easy. But it takes effort to be positive." I wish you all the best, and happy new year!!! ^_^

I think it's to do with people blurring reality and dreams, numbers, greed, and acceptance for murder.

For some reason, people are diluting the line between dreams and reality, a prime example is seeing something done in a movie, then physically repeating it. Though it could perhaps be a parent not telling them to see monkey do monkey from movies, and games.

Numbers is another issue, with the HUGE population numbers for the world, people are coming into the mindset that there wouldn't be any difference if the world lost one ore two more people. Combine this with death always being shoved in our faces (the Iraq War is a prime example) and people keep getting desensitized by the thought of death until it's just a plain function.

Next would be greed, if someone was in your way, it used to be you'd shove them out of the way or find some way to elude them, now people just pull out a gun and shoot the person. But a person's life is being valued at less and less in the terms of what someone would do or not do for a life.

It is not because of tv. It maybe part to do with parenting. But every child has a choice to say yes or know. You learn early on what is good or bad. I know about youth violence having been a part of it myself and having to deal with the after affects. My parents were great to me and were both around. Provided everything I needed. I just choose to do the things I did.

I would say that it is the quest for stuff that is our down fall. We want it all and we want it now, and if we can not have it we will take if from those who do have it.So I guess my answer would be lack of values. And when you can see the stronger gang mentality over coming the weaker individuals , and there be little or no consequences, the answer is why not, How is a child taught to value some one or something. he is made to earn it to take ownership. The thug mentality is whats mine is mine whats yours is also mine, , The answer is CONSEQUENCES

...yeah lack of values, lack of guidance, lack of abstract thinking

A child is like a sponge, they soak up all they see, hear, feel etc. If parents have the time to nurtures their youths and provide the basic needs of life and teach them to be content with what they have; the number of homicidal youths will decrease

Lack of love for themself and others. Also, human nature, influenced by an environment that glorify violence. Bad parenting, lack of good role models. Poverty is also an underlying cause for violence.

I don't believe it is because of broken homes but i do blame parents letting young kids listen to rap. I also believe it is because kids are having babies. These yong parents just are not mature enough. They think it is cute when a toddler swears, or cute dressing them like mini thugs.

because violence is glorified in movies, video games, and music. This society doesn't stand a chance of survival for another century.
