The rule of thumb is if you can drink it, they'll be OK in it. Remember- they do not breath it like a fish, or absorb it through their waterproof skin, like a frog does through its permeable skin.

Letting the water sit in the open for 24 hours to allow the chlorine to gas out is a good idea, and you need to filter the water in the tank to keep the debris, bacteria, and ammonia under control

The chlorine in tap water can irritate them, especially their eyes. Like a swimming pool with too much chlorine burns your eyes. It would be better to add an instant aquarium water chlorine remover or at least age the water overnight to reduce the chlorine. However, in my experience that it will not kill them.

yes but it will irritate it eyes from the chlorine like a swimming pool with to much bleach
