My truck just stopped running at an intersection after driving for about 1 hour, would not restart and acts like it isn"t getting any gas,had to have it towed to garage . Tow truck operator says it sounds like fuel pump might have gone out, have been told fuel pump may be in gas tank.If so have been told to expect high cost to fix,Any responses?

Fuel pump is inside the fuel tank on all fuel injected vehicles, about $600 to have it replaced.

Check your fuel pump relay, it may have died. It's only about $40. It's under the hood in the driver's side power distribution box on the fender - one of the rectangular gray plug-ins that look like huge fuses. There are several relays right there beside it that you can swap out with it (headlights for example) to try.

Relays go out more often than pumps. Clogged up fuel filters are usually the cause, making the pump draw more current and burning up the weak link - the relay is that weak link by design since it's easier and cheaper to change.

Confused with your forth sentence, sorry. When you say "it will only turn over" means that the starter is cranking the engine. If you mean the engine is not starting and running, you may need a fuel pump. Try turning the key to the on position 2 or 3 times, this will prime the fuel system, wait 5 seconds between turning on the key. Then try starting the engine.
