depends on where you live.. we bought fireworks one year..we are in our fifties and was in hot springs and went up in a mountain and shot them it was one of the best new years eves ever.. A quite night at home is nice as well.We will be spending ours like that this year.. Just really depends on where you live... why dont you add additional information on your location and then maybe someone there can give you ideas

Buy some sparkling apple cider and watch the ball drop on tv:) Why is New Years depressing to you? Personally, I think all the New Years hype is all a big fuss and an excuse for bars to sell more alcohol to people. I never liked New Years and never see the big deal in making a hulabaloo!

a lot of people stay home with either their own family or a few other family members form their family and eat and drink and laugh and dance and watch the ball go down in NY City
and have fun for a little bit of money

good luck

Don't get so hung up on it. It's just another day. Hopefully you'll have another 50 or more. Enjoy your family and play some games. Seventy-five per cent of the population stays at home. Watch the ball fall on TV.

You can dance at home. Play your favorite music and play cards. I am staying home, because I don't want to be out there with all those drunk drivers. It's just so nice to get up the next morning and take a long walk, while other people have hang overs.

sure, there are plenty of things that you can do hun, play board games, watch a few movies, cook a great meal and just enjoy eachothers company, and at midnight toast some sparkling cider.I plan on doing the same, i went out last year with friends so this year i'll stay around family.

Eat real good, buy some good drinks, rent a movie, invite some friends over, buy some fireworks, or spend it with your family because drinking in excess is not a good way to spend a holiday.

through your own party!!
yay!
chill at home, invite friends and family, buy drikns and candy and food, watch movies, play games, watch the ball drop, listen to music, play charades! the list goes on and on. or start in the afternoon and watch every movie of a series of movies like watch all the starwars, then watch the ball drop!
fun fun fun!

but it is rather short notice.

SURE there is!
Why not have a *family-only* party that makes any other celebration look like a beginners' gathering?
I suggest that your family have a MAKE AS MUCH NOISE AT MIDNIGHT-ball. When the MIDNIGHT HOUR strikes; Everyone make as much noise (pot-clanging, bell-ringing, anything you might have in your garage that can make a "clang") party?
%Just be foreadvised that I am raising such a clammer in my neighborhood! - so you already have competition.
