I was in college and my dorm roomate woke me up on september 11 while on the phone with his mother. Groggy eyed I watched him turn on the television. Together we watched the second plane hit the second tower. My roomate simply proclaimed "wow i hope classes are cancelled today"

Death of Steve Irwin! I saw it on CBC.ca and when I told my parents my mom was more sad than me. She was a big fan of him and she feels for his wife Terry Irwin and the kids! We weren't expecting it and it really came as a blow all of a sudden!

Yes, I agree with you, it was September 11th. I was working in a pub and the t.v. was always on, but I remember the news came on and showed the first plane crash, there were some American tourists in the pub (I was working in the UK) and I remember running up to them to tell them (but they didn't believe me/seem interested). I remember the time the news came on, what I wore that day, the journey home after work, going to my Mum-in-laws, then round to my sisters (where I watched the 2nd plane crashed), then I picked up my daughter from school (who I had to tell, as we had been to New York), and then I remember watching the whole evening's news too. It was very vivid and I could remember most of the day from the exact point of the first crash right through to the late night.

It was so vivid that when I got back to University, they ran an experiment on falsh memory syndrome and I worked it out, because they asked some silly questions about September 11th.

Watching the shuttle Challenger blow up while in English Class. Actually, I saw the remains of the shuttle falling back to Earth. I was in class and someone said, Hey, the shuttle is taking off! I turning to look and then turned back and said, You seen one, you seen them all. No sooner had I said that then the class let out a gasp and I turned to see pieces falling back to Earth while the rocket boosters went spiraling off into space, until they were destroyed by ground control. Not a fun day.

The death of Princess Diana. I was on Prince Edward Island on vacation. I was on my way back to NB. I called my mother to let her know I was on my way home and she broke the news. I was really shocked.

"When they announced the assination of JFK in my elementary school" was it, until it was replaced by "9/11" as the greatest historical flashbulb memory. (You didn't ask for details, sorry.)
