I took some lower division CS classes last year at a University in California. For one quarter we had to develop a course/student/professor management system that mimicked the one that the college used. You had to be able to read in the course list, manage all of the student's schedules, look up the classes each professor was teaching, handle the discussions and TAs, etc.
Pretty boring stuff :o)
