What did the breaking of the mirrors in the end represent?

What did giving the phantom the ring in the end represent?(Christine gives the ring)

What happened to the Phantom... or is that tacet?

...thats all I can think of! Such a puzzling story though!

Oh! - Why, if we know - is the Phantom Scarred. I know he was from a freak show..

1. The monkey music box was a gift to the child Phantom from the dance mistress.

2. The Christine doll was a fantasy item that the Phantom had made until he could have the real Christine

We never know what happened to the Phantom...that is part of the mystery of the story. The ring is the one the Phantom gave Christine (an engagement ring) her giving it back signifies she is no longer tied to him.
The Phantom was born deformed and sold as a child to the freak show.

The monkey was a gift to the Phantom

He loved Christine so much that he made the doll of her to be with him.

The breaking mirrors represent his anger at her leaving and the music is saying"It's over now, the music of the night". It symbolized his realizing she was gone and the voice of his music was gone.

The ring is an engagement ring.She was showing him she still loved him even though she couldn't stay.

Well, he obviously kept loving Christine and was able to place a rose on her grave(alive or dead).

The Phantom's sings "This face that earned a mother's fear and loathing, a mask, my first unfeeling scrap of clothing". He was like that at birth in this movie.
