I don't have a band myself, but I'm friends with a lot of people who do. The first thing you should do is find others who share your musical interest. You can try putting an ad in the paper, or check sites like MySpace. Once you have your band formed, play play play. Everywhere, all the time. Take any venue you can get, even if it's a tiny club or a horrible time slot. Don't assume that you'll get famous overnight, and even putting out a successful CD will take time. Once you have an established set of songs, there is probably a place in or near your town where you can go to rent a studio and make a demo disk. As with any business venture, making a name for yourself and really getting that name out there is the most important thing. Set up a website. Play at birthday parties. Remember, there's no such thing as bad publicity. And most importantly, don't do it for the fame. Do it for the music.

just hold on you first need to figure out what kind of instruments you want on your band. who can fill those places. have auditions with people and try to pick the best people. think the postions and the people for them very carefully. a persons style and image could help you out a lot. if you're going to write your own songs, do it with some other people in your band and have them help you out. you dont want to work really hard on a song, then have your band tell you it sucks. dont make your songs complicated, try to make them fairly simple i mean just think, most of the really popular songs say the same things over and over, they have a fairly simple beat and the lyrics are easy to remember and will get stuck in your head.
you asked about a cd. just remember you can record your songs on your computer and put it on a cd for free. But, you cannot sell this for profit.
putting out a cd that will actually be sold in stores costs a crap load of money
if you know anyone who works in a nightclub, coffie shop, etc. see if you can get a gig. there are a lot of amateur contests and festivals for new music and sound all over during the summer. do what you can but just remember getting a gig takes a long time if you expect to get anywhere you have got to have patience and most of the time people get nowhere but a few gigs at a night club and then no one remembers their name anymore.
not a lot of people make it being in a band but maybe youll get lucky, popular, and famous
who knows really.......... who knows

Stay true to your music first, and if your sister and you are on the same wavelength you guys are the band. Jam, make up some songs, and copyright your material. You can probably get studio time somewhere locally, and make a demo. Copy and distribute your demo everywhere, or try selling it. Post an ad, and audition for other band members.

If you can sing, and write your own lyrics and music, then thats only the first step in a music career. Maybe keep on working on your stuff, get a drummer and a bassist, make a demo disk, send it to a couple of record companies. Maybe the two hardest things are finding a good vocalist to fit your style of music and getting a record deal.
A really good manager would help too.

Start by looking in any of the newspapers that have classifieds about music gear and bands looking for members.Or start going to night clubs where the have open mic nights and perform or other night clubs where bands play and try and make contacts there.Or go to stores that sell musical equipment.often they have a place in the store where band members seek other musicians by leaving notes with phone numbers.ABOVE ALL REMEMBER WHAT THE LATE GREAT "BON SCOTT" OF AC/DC CROONED IN ONE OF THEIR HIT SONGS."IT'S A LONG WAY TO THE TOP IF YOU WANT TO ROCK AND ROLL" As for the making of a CD and getting a record company to like it and sign you to the label it's sheer chance and luck.

ok advertise...get a myspace for sure and first just get sample track make it amazing..then do concerts for really cheap....maybe for charity or maybe just opening for another big name band... and then spread the word...put your name in highschools and college...it is really all about the fans....sometimes you don't even have to be the best but you can still make it big...also go to http://craigslist.org and post a wanted ad for band members in your area and advertise there....o and get a website too! it is bound to work! good luck and remember the little people when you are famous!

well, for one thing, the basic things for a band is: a drummer, lead and/or rhythm guitarist, bassist, and a lead singer.
then you have the other instruments, like piano and/or keyboard
you could put an add in your newspaper or just ask friends who can play
it wouldn't be very hard, but it depends on how many people can help you out
