Do most people in London use first class mail to post letters. When visiting recently, I forgot to mention which class as we do not have such choice where I live but I discovered afterwards that I was given only first class stamps and it cost me quite a bit more as I had several letters.

First class for letters of importance. Postcards and Christmas cards where I send many I use second class. You can't rely on second class mail reaching it's destination. Come to think of it a lot of first class mail goes missing too!

Yes, most people do tend to use First Class mail. In days gone by, Second Class used to be just as good but these days, the mail is so slow and unreliable that you're better off buying First Class.

I used it if I wanted the stuff to get there quickly. 2nd class takes 2-3 days is only 8p less per stamp.
