This happened to me through out kindergarten(we sat on the carpet with our legs crossed all day). But throught out my life it's once in a while. I will go through a week of it then it goes away for a long time. Now it came and its staying!! My knee hurts when i put any pressure on it. I cant get up on my own if i kneal down. Any thoughts?

Your symptoms are similar to those of patellofemoral pain syndrome. Women are especially prone to it due to our wider hips and increased ankle of the knee. There may be an imbalance of muscle strength/flexibility around the knee. Usually the inner quadriceps muscle (VMO) is weakened and the outer connective tissue (IT Band) is tight and pulls the kneecap out of normal alignment. Strengthening the inner muscles and stretching of the muscles around the knee should help.

If pain does not subside, I recommend seeing an orthopedist for a proper diagnosis. He may prescribe meds, physical therapy, orthotics, advise you in certain exercises and wearing a knee brace. In only the most extreme case is surgery a possibility.

Try researching "Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome" online. Here are a few sites to start:

I've had this my whole life. I went to the sports Dr. for it at age 12 and he gave it two names. The clinical name is chondromalatia patella which just means inflammation of the knee.

The other name he gave it is "The Movie Syndrome" which I thought was funny because Drs. initially were calling it that because when we sit in a movie theater our knees start to hurt really bad. Of course they also hurt in the back seat of a car, sitting in the bleachers at school, etc., etc..

He gave me some exercises to do that would strengthen the muscles around my kneecaps which in turn was supposed to help dramatically. To be honest, I rarely did them.

I still have the problem today but for some reason it's ALOT better. I notice if I eat really horrible food for an extended period of time, like lots of sugar and white bread, then my knees hurt worse.

But on a day-to-day basis I really don't notice it anymore. I'm 39 btw.

You really should see a sports physician though to have it checked out, just so you know for sure what you should do to help it. :o)

PS: I just read the woman's post above me and followed a link and I believe it's the exact same thing that you and I have. They must have given it a better name over the last 25 years. lol

sounds like a serious joint problem. i would get it checked out and get some x-rays. if its over a long time it could either b hereditary or its just bad joints, just get it checked out, theres no harm, no need to get hurt.
