It takes a bit of getting used to and you need to be comfortable with your body.

The first time you do it you might want to do it when you're not on so you can practice without getting messy!

Try sitting on your bathroom floor with a mirror held with your feet. Use a smal amount of KY jelly either on the cu or yourself to make things easier. Fold the cup in half and hold it with one hand, use the other to find the hole. Insert the cup until it is completly in your body. Give it a bit of a twist so the cup pops open. It'll form a seal with the walls of your vagina.

The nib on the bottom can be irritating if its too long, you can cut it off if you are confident you can get it out again (obviously remove the cup before using scissors!)

To get it out just pinch the cup to release the seal ad slowly remove. Rinse and wash then reinsert.

Sounds complecated but really isn't. Once you have found the knack the its easy to do sitting on the toilet so you can empty it in public toilets.

Hope this helps :)

I would suggest buying one and trying. If you don't get on with it you can always come back to it when you're a bit more experienced. I use one and love it, but it does take a bit of getting used to and is a bit more hands on that say applicator tampons. But it is great for all the reasons you've mentioned. It's hard to say what size it is in comparison to a tampon when it's folded and ready for insertion, but once you get the end in the rest follows. And you might have to insert a finger or two with it - so I would say it is bigger, but the folded tip guides it in, and that's probably smaller. The tricky part is making sure it then unfolds when it's inside otherwise it won't be working properly. I didn't realise this when I first got mine and found it would do it randomly after insertion (maybe 10 mins or so after I would feel a weird sensation as it popped into place!). Now I have mastered the technique of gently squeezing the end once I've inserted it to make it pop out. Apparently also running a finger around it once it's in can help. I love it because it's great for all times of the month. I used to hate wearing tampons at the end when they would come out so dry. If you can get used to it, definitely go for it, but it does take a bit of practice til you can use it how you like it. The one I use is the mooncup, but I've also seen adverts recently for a femmecup.

The Mooncup is a reusable menstrual cup around two inches long and made from soft silicone rubber. It is worn internally like a tampon but collects menstrual fluid rather than absorbing. Unlike tampons the Mooncup is not a disposable product, so you only need to buy one.

The Mooncup will hold 30ml of fluid, which is roughly one third of the average total produced each period. A light seal is formed with your vaginal walls allowing your menstrual fluid to pass into the Mooncup without leakage or odour. You will probably find that you need to empty your Mooncup less frequently than you currently replace towels or tampons.

The Mooncup is now available from larger branches of Boots and good independent health food shops.

i haven't used a moon cup it seems too "rigid" for me. i use sea sponges which is natural sponge which you rinse out and re insert. disinfect with tea tree oil. i know this sounds yuck but i am saving the enviroment and not risking tss.
ps it isn't messy
