well first, laptops are expensive
second, save up allowance or set up a lemonade stand or mow lawns, babysit for your aunt or neighbor. just do odd jobs. if your parents see that your responsible they might give you an allowance or get you one for your birthday/christmas. work on your grades, try to get straight A's. dont whine to them about little things. do not show immaturity. stop asking for a while, they will remember, try to drop very tiny hints like "i wish that writing this paper could go faster, this dang pencil keeps breaking." or pens keep running out of ink. then when your birthday comes around they will ask what you want just say i dont know, and then have a sibling (if you have one) say to your parents in private "she really wants a laptop, she struggles when the pencil breaks when writing papers or doing homework. it would make her papers go a whole lot faster." youll get them to do this by offering a little time to play on the computer. hope this helps.
ps. start saving for it anyway, dont waste your money all at once keep it in the bank for a while to earn some interest. look in ads or look on the internet to find deals, (if you call dell, they will try to find discounts for you over the phone, but keep in mind that your parents in the end will have to pay for it with your money as you arent old enough to have a credit card and you will need a ride to the store if thats where you are getting it from and you really shouldnt keep large amounts of money with you at a time because it might get stolen and then all your hard work will go away in a flash.)

I'm agreeing with everyone else. Do you realize how much those cost? Even cheap tablet PCs are in the thousands, as are good laptops. And since you're too young to get a job, you're just gonna have to want and wait.

Can you ask your parents to do chores around the house for a weekly allowance?

It takes lot of money to get a lap top. You'll need to do a lot of saving. Money from holidays, birthdays, etc. If your able to try doing some babysitting for family and neighbors for a reasonable price. Maybe you can find some stuff around the house to make things.

Make some necklaces to sell (not at school)
bracelets? Maybe this summer you can set up a tea/lemonade/popcicle stand? Wash Cars for people? Anything is possible. Just find things you can do and save save save.

Why do you need a laptop in 5th grade? It's good your 'rents won't give you the money, that would just be cheap. You need to work for it if you really want it. Do odd jobs, pet sit, baby sit, whatever.

Do some babysitting or chores for older people. Rake yards-anything to make some money. When your parents see how determined you are to save and work, perhaps they will meet you halfway. It's not easy, but then again, nothing much is.

how about you focus on school and not the computer. its not good to play around on the computer, especially since your only in fifth grade....im sure you have a computer at home that your parents use. just ask them to use theirs when you need it for school. the internet is a dangerous thing if you do not know how to use it properly. you might find things on there that will make you.......curious....plus, to get a good one, you need a good bit of money, im saying about 1000 dollars for a good one, now that we're friends and all, i think i need those ten points...

What makes you think a 5th grader is entitled to a laptop computer?

I have to side with your parents in not getting you one.

Gosh, golly, gee whiz, Eliza... It appears that your parents pay for your time online... so you might consider a job or some such animal that could enable you to actually purchase your very own laptop ...

How entitled must we be these days???? What'cha get fer Xmas, Eliza????? Wake up, kidz...
