Seahorses are saltwater fish and require special care. The biggest issue with seahorses are that they are picky eaters and very slow.
Most people that keep them have an aquarium dedicated to them as any other fish will out compete them for food.

They are one of the most difficult fish to keep, with lots of patience and money you can be successful.
The first thing to do is not go to petsmart or any other large pet store. Find a good locally owned aquarium shop. They should be able to find some tank raised seahorses, they are expensive, $100+ each for tank raised ones; don't buy wild caught ones.
They are a salt water fish and need at least a 30 gallon tank. Expect to spend up to $2000 on setting the tank up properly. Get some good books about salt water fish keeping at it is much more difficult than fresh water, much more expensive too.
If you have any more Q's e-mail me through yahoo answers, I have bred them in the past and can help, but books are necessary in order to get the knowledge base.

well they need salt water, and i think tropical salt... usually one seahorse is worth on average $40. but you may get it at very cheaper prices coz i live out in the country. just look around your local petshop or aquarium for more details. good luck.

Please don't buy a sea horse unless you had a salt water tank before. I would try a clown fish.
