This Wednesday I will be starting my new job as a receptionist. I will work from 8-1 and I was wondering what a hair salon receptionist does. Im 15 years old and it will be my first job. My mom knows the salon owner so thats how I got the job. Im homeschooled so I can work from 8-1. I get paid $5 an hour under the table. She says I just need to answer the phone and book appointments. Im a little nervous. Can anyone give me a little advice. Thanks

If you like people you are going to have a lot of fun. Depending on how busy the salon is it will be at times pretty crazy answering the phone and booking appointments. Depending on what services the salon offers (hair, nails, skin care, etc) you will need to learn how much time appointments take and you will learn who is a regular and who is a new customer. You are the first person the client talks to so you need to be warm and friendly and helpful and make a good impression. A lot of clients can be difficult and you need to be able to keep your cool and not turn them away. It can be hard dealing with difficult people but it is important for someone young like you to learn what it is like out in the working world. Customer service especially in a salon is very important. or should I say Good customer service. I worked in your position before and we had a salon right across the street so we tried always to keep our clients happy so that they would no go elsewhere. Good luck.

Congrats on your first job! Just be very polite with customers. Speak up if you don't know something, they'll expect you to have a learning curve and asking is better than doing something wrong. Answering the phones and writing in appointments should be well within a 15 year-old's ability so don't be nervous! Have fun!

you just book appointments and answer the phone...thats it, and they will give u training....btw $5...is under minimum wage...and from that $5, you are going to have to pay income tax....so you're going to actually earn less than that.

Yeah its quite easy, just greet the customer, have them sign in, and take them to their stylist when ready, finally take their money.
