As she is cutting three top teeth, I have given her infant motrin four nights in a row. My mother is concerned that this is too much.

I think it might be a bit much, eventually, it will stop working, I would give her a small drop of oragel, but only if she's in pain. Once the teeth break the surface, the pain is pretty much gone. Good luck.

They go through spurts of teething and there were a few nights I would give my daughter that preemptive Tylenol so she would sleep better. I also alternated with Motrin. If you do it every night, I don't think it's a good idea, but with the wave of teething pain from time to time, I don't see the harm.

By the way, a friend of mine suggested large Bavarian pretzels with the rock salt on them. I thought "whatever, right..." and did not try it right away thinking that it was a ridiculous recommendation. After one too many sleepless nights, I tried it the following day. I would give them to her throughout the day and she never woke with teething pain again. I think that there is something antiseptic about salt and the pretzel/salt combo really broke open her gums. I wasn't too keen on giving her salt, but it is in small amounts, it made her feel better and I got some much needed rest.

I hope you get some good ideas from posting here and get more sleep! I wish I had known about this site when I first had my daughter, I definitely need the help.

check with their pediatrician for a definite answer. i don't think it's too much if you are giving it in the correct dosage for her weight:) obviously, don't overdo it.
my baby girl (8 months) is cutting two upper teeth right now too. i give her motrin or tylenol before bed and sometimes during the day, IF distraction play doesn't work.
it's so hard though. my daughter is such a happy little girl otherwise and this past week has just been horrible. she is in a ton of pain and i feel terribly for her. plus on top of the teething, she is crawling all over the place and standing up which means the occasional toppling over and bumping her head. i wish i could cover her in padding to protect her from getting hurt:)
good luck

Motrin's fine. My oldest cut 5 teeth and once. Her pediatrician told us Motrin over Tylenol, but to alternate them every two hours if the pain was really bad.

If you'd rather not give her medicine, try Hylands Teething Tablets.

As long as you follow the directions, it should be fine. I use Motrin as well. As long as you're only using it while she's teething, and not on a regular basis... no problem.
If she's really in pain... it might work to switch between Motrin and Tylenol? Tylenol doesn't last as long though.

Good Luck!!

Unless she seems she is feverish, just try nighttime orajel. Also, I wouldn't use motrin, as it can cause health side effects if used too often. It can cause Reye's syndrome. If she is feverish and totally bothered by it, try tylenol. But try the night time orajel rather than using drugs if you don't have to. It will be better for her in the long run. Also, during the day, brush her gums at various times with light pressure with a soft bristle tooth brush. It helped my daughter tons.

I dont think that it will harm her. I may only be 16 but i been babysitting since i was 12 the little girl i babysitt now is 3 and ive been babysitting her since she was 5 months old. I no that when she was that old and getting teeth we always gavve her motrin, there is nothing wrong with her. but just to be saffe you should call your dotor or ask a pharmasict to see if it will hurt her.

It will soon lose its affect on her. Maybe try giving her a teething ring or a washcloth that has been in the freezer. Are you sure she is upset because of teething pain? Alot of times she might have separation anxiety from you. Good luck and Happy New Year!

What does it say on the bottle of Motrin? I would suggest alternating Motrin and Tylenol.

have you tried night time orajel ? my dr told me to give tylenol and motrin at the alternating times
tylenol only lasts 4 hours
motrin lasts 8 hours & you should never go past 7 days
but try not to give it to her during the day
try icy's or ice water in her bottle and don't forget frozen teethers
