Utilities are owned both by gov. & private. just like one answerer, I onced lived on long Island NY but everything is expensive there & overcrowded so natrually they will charge more.I live in fla now & localities do own power & utility co's. electric is cheap!!! I have been in kentucky several summers and it's the same Cheap! people looking for rentals always want electric over gas heat because it is cheaper. the gas co in the lexington,ky area is owned privately. Personally, I think that the public interest is best served if the government didn't allow monopolies by private enterprises. I was taught that monopolies were illegal but around here, they aren't. You have to take what is available (gas, electric, cable) whether you like the service or the prices. You have no alternatives unless you can do without heat and lights. So in a sense, we have the best [sarcasm] of both worlds--utilities owned privately but controlled by the government. The only thing that could possibly be worse is the government owning them--the service would only get worse than it already is and the price would go higher than it already is. If they allowed competetion around here, maybe the prices would go down or the service would get better or both...

Living on Long Island (NY) we have had the pleasure of having our only power company privately owned (as LILCO) which was horribly expensive, then get taken over by the government (as LIPA) only to be right back where we started from within a few years. Makes no difference to us, we just keep paying.

Getting kinda worried now "not a lot" Then he asks, "can i come over?" What interior the international i presumed, "No i'm kinda busy" Then from the different stall "purely a 2nd, the fool interior the stall next to me keeps answering each and every thing i say", he says to the guy on his cellular telephone
