is it true that self-confidence is developed in early childhood and can't be developed later or can self-confidence be gained and lost and re-gained at any time?

That is completely untrue. Self-confidence is merely your perspective of yourself, and just like any opinion, is bound to change with time. If you need to boost it, try some volunteer work, a community project or working on a college education. Anything that helps you gain insight on your feeling of self worth is very helpful in the long run, and will make you feel pretty good about yourself. Slainte!

What I know is that I was physically and emotionally abused growing up and I have never been very confident. I have had b/f's in the past that reinforced the bad feelings I had about myself also. I still am not a very confident person. I don't know if my confidence could be built up or not. I have never tried to do anything about it before. I don't feel as if the way I feel could be changed but that doesn't mean I'm right. It just means that the lousy way I feel about myself makes me feel hopeless sometimes.
