I always thought that the desire to be worshiped was rather a base trait, so why do so many attach it to such a divine figure that is also thought to be perfect?

I can understand that mankind would be grateful. I understand how a creator could be worthy of praise as well, but that's not the point I'm getting at. I have heard religious people say it is not enough to simply be a good person. If God is a heavely father, would he not love all his children and respect how they honour him, if, for instance, that be by living a happy life?

I don't think doubting is a sin, mankind has the faculty to question and to ponder. Stone to death?

As for the Christ point, what happened to the people before Christ? Are all other religions wrong?

Actually if such a said god like you mentioned exists, I wouldn't mind worshipping him. At least he's better than the Aztecs' god who demands the blood and heart of a sacrificial victim.

You would think that god is shallow because simply, he displays a human trait. Divine beings are, at best, a creation of human imagination of an individual who can overcome something humans can't. That is why in various religion, you can see god and deities who have (insert your own special ability) powers.

There is one exception of course. The christian god is said to be omnipotent. Which is an euphemism for "You can save money by worshipping one god only". I personally think that is why christianity flourish better than any other religion which has a bigger base of followers than it.

But religion is a very crafty art created long ago by people who wants to profit from others. I'm not saying that their followers are dumb, they just have too much faith pinned on others than themselves. And frankly, how can we prove something that doesn't exist?

Therefore, god is created to be worshipped because that is how priests' profits come from. How does vatican city come to be so grand and clergy being so rich? Get Real. Not that god would drop money from heaven.

I am a christian yet I can appreciate your thoughts. First off we were created to have fellowship with God. God had fellowship with Adam until Adam chose to disobey God then sin entered the world along with death. In order for us today to have fellowship with God we must first be "born again" which occurs when we recognize we are sinners and need a saviour. The saviour of course is the Lord Jesus Christ whom God sent out of His love for us. You see we cannot approach God when we are still in our sin, but once we accept Christ our sins are removed and cast as far as the east is from the west. When we accept Christ this is when we become born again. We were born physically as a baby then ""spiritually" (new birth) when we accept Christ as Lord and Saviour. God tells us He will send His Holy Spirit to come and dwell within us when we accept His Son. When we become saved we recognize God's love for us and the beautiful creation He has made we desire out of gratefulness to worship Him. We praise Him for the God He is and for providing a saviour for a lost and dying world. Hope this provides some light re your question.

At first, I was amused by some answers! They showed wisdom and understanding. But as I read on, I wonder what has become of mankind over the last 50 years or so! So many have stopped believing, stopped caring! Todays children simply presume that God's existence is a fairy tail. The Holy Bible, nothing more that the ramblings of dreamers! My own daughter questions His existence and seeks to understand!

The key phrase here is "seeks to understand".

So many of today's youth will not even try to understand our Creator! The questioner is making an attempt, and I for one, commend you for it!

God tells us that He is a jealous god and that there should be none before Him. He is hardly 'shallow'! He told us the truth and what He expects from us. He does not hide or shy away.

God IS Perfect and rightous. He is The Creator of ALL Things!

He, alone, has the divine right to ask whatever He so wishes of us.

We should not be so proud of what we have become, to think of ourselves as gods amoungst our own kind! We are not but ants amoungst giants!

Again, God is not shallow! It is we who are shallow!

EXCELLENT QUESTION,

This is exactly my argument against Islam. In the Christian worldview, Love existed BEFORE Life. In every other religion, Life preceeds Love. For example, for the Christian, when God spoke, one cannot assume a speaker without a listener! And when the Bible says "God is Love", to whom does He give love to. Only in the Christian concept of the Trinity, you have a being, one in 3 persons, ALREADY in a relationship; father, spirit, son.

But for the Muslim, Allah is "forced" to make man because He has no one.

God did not create man to worship Him. God and Man are one and the same. Just like the 'spark' which leaps from the Flame.

It is the ultimate in vanity to create and be worshiped. It is the basic foundation of fame, an instance that God in his infinite wisdom would not appreciate. The answer to your question is, yes, absolutely.

Never thought of it this way. It's a very provocative question.

That is an EXCELLENT point! Anyone who wants to be worshiped IS pretty sorry! Heh-heh...

As for the thing about kids respecting parents being the same?
A) BAD analogy! Parents are not "supreme beings" that people mean when they talk about a god!
B) Kids should only respect parents who EARN it, not just because they had sex and popped them out! ANY bozo can do THAT! Do they automatically deserve respect? NO.

that isnt the main focus of God theres much more that he wants us to experience, in my opinion and this is just me im not trying to force you to believe in whatever all im saying is unless God himself decided to tell you that he only wants us because he likes praise and worship then i wouldnt think of it in just that way i think you have been misinformed. and about him being shallow, all i can say is look around not trying to be cheesy, but besides all the big headed people in world who lovee themselves the beauty in this world is breathtaking so if he was so shallow he wouldnt have taken some time to make us beautiful sights like waterfalls and all the natural beauty that we overlook he would have just made us some ground and some sort of building to hold us. again this is just my opinion. =]

It is a stupid idea but you have to remember that the idea of God comes from authoritarian humans who think we have to have a hierarchical social system with God and some strong human authority at the top telling us what God is saying. Of course this all nonsense.

The problem with God is that no one has ever been able to prove he exists. Seems to be a waste of time to worship or be obedient to something that doesn't have any evidence of its existence.
