I try to get on with most people, and I have been told numerous times I'm a really thoughtful and nice guy, but I always end up living with flatmates, one of whom I can never get on with... whats the deal? Am I just really wanting to live on my own (thought can't afford it)?

I don't know about you, but I just cannot live with others. I need privacy, I need my own space and yet, everyone tells me that I am very thoughtful and nice. I feel that you should move to a place where you can just start afresh and maintain a lot of distance from day one just so that your fresh room mates know that you need space and privacy.
Good Luck. I know how it is to not be able to afford stuff; you will eventually be able to ...don't loose heart. I have been there.

It's a question of personality. Even people I like a great deal, I find hard to take for more than a few hours. I prefer privacy and peace and quiet. That would drive some other people crazy. It's just human differences.

just a thought: it might not be you that's the problem. you can't get along with everybody. there are just certain types of people who are uncompatable mates. maybe you need to reduce your # of flatmates. maybe you should ask the other person what is her/his problem. think about it. you don't have to fall in love, marry, and have kids with your roomies just share your space. i'm sure there is something you guys can do to make the situation better.

Bite the bullet until you can afford to live on your own. Why not talk about the problems to the person involved and try and come to a compromise.
