Are there cons? Except for costs, maybe, but that's better than paying for weapon research if you ask me.

The pros, however, are many... we learn about our universe that way, for much the same reasons we learn about our Earth, or family tree. We learn about our past and future, it lights our imagination and drives us forward.

And of course... allow us to, eventually, expand the human race beyond the confines of our little world, which is already starting to get a little crowded.

There are definitely a few pros to space research. Lots of the things we use every day stemmed from space exploration in some way. Velcro and Teflon were both developed for space exploration and so was Tang drink mix. Without space exploration, we wouldn't have satellites either. No satellite TV, no satellite communications, no GPS, and no weather satellites (although that probably wouldn't change the accuracy of forecasts by too much; they never get them right anyways.) I suppose you could go with the desire to find the origin of the universe, except I believe God created the entire thing, so I see no sense in trying to find that. Nothing comes without some cons, though. Space research costs a TON of money and isn't exactly environmentally friendly, either. Being an astronaut isn't all that safe, and the technology we use to fly into space is pretty outdated as well. Just my opinion.

Well I'm not a fan of space research so I'd have to say IF there were pro's it would be finding out more about the world, the atmosphere, planets, how earth evolved, what kinds of life might exist out there.

Con's, what kind of new diseases are out there in space to bring back, what if some astraunauts get stuck out there? the cost of the projects when that money could be used (same applies to war) for other more reasonable things.

Pros - we know more stuff. We make up new technology. It's really cool.

Cons - pretty much none. NASA has the smallest budget of any gov't agency - the war costs more that 30 times as much. What are the pros of the war?
