As far as HPV goes, intimate skin-to-skin contact means (for hetero couples) a penis touching the skin of the vulva, or anything on the outer vagina. The evidence for hand-to-genital transmission of HPV is sketchy... the type of virus that causes warts on your hands or feet is not HPV. Kissing, hugging, touching each other's body is fine.

HPV causes HPV not skin to skin contact. If someone has HPV or another STD than you have a very good chance of getting it as well. Skin to skin contact (intercourse) between two people who do not have diseases would not cause you to suddenly catch something . Use a condom if you are unsure, its the only way to be sure other than not doing it. Caressing someones arm is still a fairly safe activity. (unless they got herpes on their arm)

In terms of contracting HPV, it means having contact of the naked genital areas of both partners, contact of hands to infected genitals, mouth to infected genitals. HPV is contagious, so you must take precautions not to spread HPV by having unprotected sex, including touching genitals after direct exposure to the virus.
