wow, it definitely has something to do with weight.
you lost a lot! and i'm not saying that as a good thing.
depending on how tall you are, you many not be capable of having a period if you've lost too much weight (i.e. dropped below 20% body fat). this is not good.
get your BMI checked, go to your doctor.
i mean... i can't answer this properly because i don't know how tall you are, but 98 pounds is way below average for a 15 year old girl.
it is highly probable this is what's wrong. and depending on how fast you shed this weight, it kinda sounds like you have an eating disorder. which is also very serious.
see your doctor immediately.
the same thing happened to a very good friend of mine, and she was diagnosed anorexic.
i'm not accusing you, i'm just saying this for your own good.
go see your doctor right away.

Weight loss can indeed affect your periods-you need a certain amount of body fat for your female hormones to work in their proper cycles. You've lost 15% of your body's weight, which is enough to affect your menstrual cycle.
Other things that could cause this, since you're not pregnant are hormonal problems with your thyroid or ovaries or normal fluctuation in your cycles. If you're also going to the bathroom a lot and are always thirsty, there may be a risk of diabetes, which has to be taken care of right away.
It would be best if you saw your family doctor so she can run tests to make sure your hormones are all in proper levels and can also make sure your weight loss is in safe amounts and isn't affecting your body negatively-and can help you if there are problems.

Actually the amount that you weigh does have a lot to do with your period. If you weigh too little, than sometimes your period can lag. I lost a lot of weight at one point, then when I actually gained weight, I recieved my period for the first time, when my friend, the exact same age as me (down to the day!) got hers half a year before I did (however that could have to do with genetics and blah). Anyways, I don't know the specifics, but I DO know that weight is a factor. For sure.

Women who are into sports which require a lot of endurance (marathon runners for example) have had their periods cease due to the great weight loss. I don't remember the physiological, medical reasons. You're pretty young, I'm guessing, are you also small? That little 17 pounds you dropped just might have a big enough impact to goof with your hormones - and since they regulate periods (whether or not the egg will come down to await fertilization), maybe that is what's happening to you after all.
You're young, but a 'big girl' now nonetheless. Get thee to a women's clinic (or Planned Parenthood) and start learning about and taking care of yourself. If you and your boyfriend are sexually active, take him to Planned Parenthood with you. It's a supportive environment to get information from.
Good luck.

Losing weight and/or excessive exercise can halt your periods during adolesence. Have you recently joined a sport? Certain medications and drugs can alter your menstrual cycle also.
If none of these pertain to you I would have your parents set up an appointment with your doctor, you could have a high thyroid level. Easily treated, not life threatening. Hope this helps.

Actually, that is the most likely cause. You didn't say how tall you are, but you are probably too thin. When the percentage of body fat gets below a certain level, the menstrual cycle will stop. Your body is saving its resources, because as far as your body is concerned, there is a famine going on and you can't afford to get pregnant.

Your body stores estrogen in fat. If your fat stores are insufficiant then you have no period. Most highly competitive female athletes don't have periods, neither do most anorexics or any woman looking like she has a 6 pack.
Go see your doctor or school nurse, your weight loss could be dangerous. Estrogen is part of your healthy metabolism now, if you don't have enough, other things could be effected as well.
Also, you always want to make sure its nothing else more serious to your health.

I know your have an age range but I wanted to input this it is normal to worry but not to over worry. Talk to your mom, or a counselor maybe could help ease your feelings. Writing also works, write down exactly what your scared of and you think this way. I once had to walk to school and I did worry but I always tried to be safe walk with a friend or have a cell phone in hand. Above all talk to your mom.

its most likely that you have lost so much weight most girls need to be over 100 lbs to start their period. how tall are you . you may be underweight also it can be caused my stress . Unless you are are under 5'1 i wouldn't recommend being under 115 lbs. Im 5'3 and 1/2 and thats the least that i could weigh and not be unhealthy my doctor says.
