I don't understand why someone would spend that kind of money to buy jeans with holes in them. I think it has to do with the fact that they are name brand (American Eagle to name one). A person can save a lot of money if they just buy a cheap pair of jeans from Wal Mart and cut them up when they get home or let time do it for them through wear and tear.

same here! feels like the trend follows ya!!!!!
and now the "used" shoes/boots look is in,...
The "bum" look will eventually arrive shortly!!!

the 'destroyed jeans'... ok first of all,i'd just like to point out that high quality destroyed jeans dont look at all the same as worn out raggedy jeans that ripped. and im going to say that destroyed jeans came from the 80s, but im not totally sure... as you proabbly know, trends come from the brains of crazy good designers, and seasons later, those trends are passed down to mainstream stores.

It has to do with the whole punk rock, emo, goth trend going around. The whole thing about your mom would go out and buy you new jeans, that's pretty much how it started, they wanted to go against what people normally would do and be rebellious, (sad how they find that rebellious) and not get new jeans, but instead just make holes in their pants. Stupid I know, but it's why!

Trash fashion was not acceptable a few years ago. Some of these "nasty looking punkers" on videos stirred this trend. Your legs and **** look ridiculous in rags. Wear the best you have got and don't buy these nasty, ragged jeans from these trashy trend stores. Why make them rich on your lack of taste. You know they look like hell! Why ask the obvious.

i completely agree... i mean you could buy a nice new pair of jeans for less than the holey ones, and wear them out yourself, and then just keep wearing them because it's in style. why pay for half a pair of jeans? i personally don't like the holey/ paint splattered look... but that's just me.

Let me answer your question with another question: Why does anything become trendy? Trends change, and something that wasn't trendy a couple years ago might be trendy now (and vice versa).
