Electromagnetic energy is what happens when you pass an electric current through a coil of wire. It's the basis for all electric motors, generators, radio transmitters, etc. Don't trust the crap you read here.

Electromagnetic energy, like all energy, radiates if it is able to. The farther away you are from a sound source, the less loud it sounds. The farther away from a light source, the less bright it looks. The farther away a wave moves from a brick dropped in the water, the lower it gets. The farther away from a fire you go, the less of its heat you feel. This is all because the energy is spreading out in all directions. Any given point or cross section of the wave will be less as you move farther away from the source because it is being divided out over a larger area. The interesting thing is that the total amount of energy in the wave is the same, but it is spread out more the farther you get from the source. You would feel more heat from the sun if you were on Venus than if you were on Earth. That is because at that distance, your area is hit by a larger portion of the energy than it would be if you were farther from the sun. If you were on the sun, looking out toward Venus and Earth, Venus would look considerably larger than the Earth, (even though it is actually a little smaller.) Imagine that the same amount of heat goes out from the sun in each small area of its surroundings, like a little circle on a sphere. Venus is a larger portion of that sphere, so it gets more heat. Another example. If you shine a flashlight on a book that is a foot away, you see a bright, compact circle of light on the book. If you put the book on the other side of the room, the circle is now much bigger than the book, so the amount of light hitting the book is much less.

There are many forms of electromagnetic energy. I suggest searching for electromagnetic force, electromagnetic coils, & for interesting methods of propulsion look into Maglev Trains.

You're kidding, right? Even physicists aren't completely sure what EM is. But it does come in a range of frequencies from DC to terahertz at least. Energy can be harnessed to do all kinds of work. You're using it to ask this question!
