I have a 2001 chevy silverado 1500 HD with coil near plug. Do they make msd ignitions for this type of system. If so do I have to buy 8 seperate coils or is there another way to replace your ignition system with MSD. What is the average cost of the type of system I am looking for.

I beleve that truck has a LS1 based motor. If so yes you need one per cylinder. I think I saw in Summitt a single MSD coil cost about $85.00 each. Personally I don't think its worth it. I would spend the cash on some Headers or a nice Cat Back.

You would have to replace each coil. But I don't know why you would want to waste your money on aftermarket coils. The original coils are plenty hot! They provide more than enough voltage.
