This happens when a player gets a penalty. he sits in the 'box' for 2 minutes. Now his team can only have four players on the ice (not including the goalie). The other team has 5 guys on the ice (not including the goalie). So that one extra man creates an advantage ('power') for the team with all of it's players on the ice.
If the team with the power play scores a goal, the man in the penalty box returns to the bench and the team plays at full strength again.
There can be up to 2 players in the penalty box at any one time. So if there are two guys from the same team in the box and the opposing team scores a goal, only one man goes back to the bench. If another goal was scored, the second man would go back to the bench.
That would be two power play goals.
If the team taht was being penalized scored a goal (its called a short handed goal), then they would still keep the player in the penalty box until his penalty was over or a goal against them (power play goal) was scored.

A power Play is when a player commits a penalty (such as cross-checking) this player either gets a two minute minor four minute minor or a five or ten minute major. For the amount of time the player or players are being kept in the penalty box the team needs to play with either 4 or 3 players depending on how many people are being penalized if the other team scores a goal while on the powerplay the penalized player is released back into play

in hockey there are penalties. when they get caught they are put in the penalty box. now they have one less player on the ice while the other team has the right number of players on the ice thus giving them an advantage or Power Play

when one person on a team does something that causes a penalty, they go to the bench, and their team has one less person, which makes the other team go on a power play, the have the advantage, though there can be shorthanded goals, usually on 5 on 4, then theres 5 on 3, then 7 on 4 or something

power play occurs when one team has penalized player / players thus having fewer players on the ice than the opposing team. usually resulting in a 5 on 4 or a 5 on 3 situation.
