As a recent law school graduate, I can tell you that law school admissions offices take a number of factors into consideration. Top tier law schools (like Harvard) are interested in applicants with high GPAs and high LSAT scores.
They are also interested in candidates with interesting work experience or life experience. Although the essay is not the most important part of the application, it is important to submit a well-written essay, which demonstrates that you have a sophisticated/interesting perspective of the world.
Your pre-law counselor can give you more information. Furthermore, there are admissions consultants that can help you craft admissions essays, if you need some help. If you're interested in hiring an admissions consultant, I have a friend who has very good rates.
Good luck! And remember that there are several law schools out there (other than Harvard) that will help you accomplish your career goals.

In addition to the grades, LSAT, Essay, and previous experience, connections don't hurt (think about references that went to Harvard Law). Lawyers and Law firms connected to Harvard will only help your chances (provided you have the other pieces).
