Im tired of the dumb comments. lol
My mice have been fighting, they are biological brother and they were born and raised together. they have just recently started fighting. Some people told me this is a form of play and is totally harmless if i dont notice any physical damage.(and i dont), But im just worried to put them back in the cage together. They have gotten along fine. And now i seperated them they miss each other and seem depressed. Im scared to put them back together cause what if this is not play, what if they will hurt each other when im not looking. Does anyone have any suggestions?? Because i really dont want to seperate my boys.

Ok, here goes: Depending on the age, they may be either playing or territorial. If their testicles have dropped (and you will know if they have because you will definitely be able to see them!) then it is probably a territory war. Unless one is losing the battle, they can stay together. Males will tend to bite each other right above the tail, so, that is the place to check for blood. And believe me, there will be blood is there is a bite. If you are really concerned about them getting an injury when you are not around, seperate them when you will be gone for more than a couple of minutes. Here's my best suggestion: Get them neutered. I did that to my male after the litter of 13 babies arrived and it was the best thing I ever did. I ran me $60.00 and he ended up getting medical superglue instead of stitched so there was no follow up visit. It's really easy to do if you can talk your vet into it. My vet just gassed him with fluoro and snip-snip it was done in less than an hour. Good luck.

If they were fighting before, they would have done some damage to each other. Mice have some sharp teeth, and if a male mice wants to attack another, he will use his teeth and do damage. They are probably just playing, and it's nothing to worry about. If they seem depressed away from each other, obviously they miss each other.

I would reccomend putting them in the cage, but watch them for the first couple of minutes. Watch how they interact with each other. If they go at each other right away and start making hissing sounds, I would seperate them as soon as possible. If they are just rolling around they are just playing. If your still worried about them when they are back in the same cage, I would seperate them when you will be gone for a long time, especially for more than an hour.

They could also need a bigger cage. Maybe they started fighting because they want more room, but if there was no blood I doubt it was fighting ... just play.

- Hope this helps, and good luck with the mice! :-)

Males are much more difficult to keep together. Even though they were raised together, they are maturing, and they are becoming more and more territorial. You can TRY getting a larger cage, so there would be enough room for them both to be happy. Or maybe put a wire cage separater in the middle, separating the two, but they can still see each other. Or, you can neuter them.

That's about all that you can do. Next time, get 2 females. Females can live together in groups, males can't.

If they are both males they MUST be separated. They will fight to the death. They were fine at first because they hadn't reached maturity, now they have so they will not get along. From experience I can honestly say that even though they were litter mates, if kept together one will eventually die. Females can live together in groups, and 1 male can live with a group of females. Males can not live together.

yes, mice and rats like to play together and generally clean eachother. as u said if there is no physical damage from the play then the are most likely playing, amusing themselves.
another alternative is to look at getting them de-sexed by a local veterinarian, this procedure may cost $50 -$100 depending on where abouts you live. the castration of mice and rats is also beneficial to there health, it lengthens there life span, and also reduces the risk of tumours.
the de-sexing will also lower the amount of testosterone they have and can settle them down if it is not play fighting. i know for a fact that the de-sexing helps as we had our 4 rats all done, yes it is pricey but it benefits in alot of ways.
anyways hope that helps. goodluck.

I go along with the terretory answer plus them playing around they are testing their strengths and learning how to protect their
area. and be the bread winner, just natural; as they get older one will be the boss over the other just the nature of things they can live together but one will be boss and go first all the time. try to show each equal attention.

Male rodents do NOT get along together. Keep them apart, or risk injury!!!!!!! They do not care that they were born together!!!

just put a small mirror in each cage that they can play with. that way they won't get lonely and they can't hurt each other.
