You are right that stress might be the culprit. However, you should definately go to the doctor to get it checked out. You can always use an Ovulation Predictor kit to find out when you are ovulating and keep track of your CM.

This is going to sound completely irresponsible...so bear with me.
I have PCOS so I don't have "normal" cycles at all...maybe a few a year.
Last June I realized I hadn't had my cycle since January. Every month I didn't think anything of because I am so irregular with them anyway.
Found out I was 18 wks pregnant and didn't even know. Seriously--it was a Montel William's show moment. No fertility help (as I had needed the two previous pregnancies). And I gained weight which I just assumed was from changing jobs and stress, blah, blah, blah.
Luckily I take fairly good care of myself and everything turned out fine and when I asked the Dr how this could have happened without fertility help he said "Well things happen."
So, get a test, go to the Dr. and find out what is going on. Believe me, you do not want to be half way through your pregnancy and not know anything about it!

A typical cause of no periods is not enough body fat. If you look anorexic, you could skip periods. Sounds like this is not your problem.
Abnormal periods could have many causes. Sensitivity to hormones is one, PCO (poly-cycstic ovary syndrome) is another. See a doctor.
If your weight-gain is mostly like a "spare tire" around your stomach, rather than the usual female weight problem - big-butt, big thighs, big-chest and big-all-over - you may have PCO. This means you have trouble ovulating. The doctor may say you could have trouble conceiving, but the PCO-chat boards are full of women whose stories go "They told me I'd nver get pregnant, and I have 3 kids!". See a doctor.
Above all, don't assume no period means no pregnancy risk. It can happen.

Same thing happened to me, I had really irregular periods and the doc said my chances of getting pregnant were lowered because of it--significantly. Miraculously we got pregnant, but the doc had recommended some short-term hormonal therapy to regulate my cycle. A low dose birth control pill for 3-6 months might enough to jump start you, and you should be able to conceive within a month or two of completing it. You don't even have to go to a OB gyn for this, you can get the scrip from your regular doc.

Try the clearblue easy ovulation kits! They are just like pregnancy tests but they tell you when you will be ovulating! To be sure your not pregnant right now, you should go get a blood test done at your dr. They are 100% acurate! Good luck, best wishes, and Happy New Year!

My sister-in-law had issues like this.
It ended up being ovarian cancer that was very treatable and still has problems but not like life or death.
I have just the opposite problem I have a period every 2-3 weeks, fixed with Novaring.
Another possibility is endimetrios (not spelled right).
A good OB/GYN should be able to fix you up.
Good luck.

i am in your exact situation. i only had 4 periods this year. my last one was 5 months apart and i am trying to get pregnant for the 2nd time. i want another child but never know when i am ovlulating either. i heard from people to go on birth control for at least 2 months or more. it will regulate you and help your hormones. and once you quit taking it you will get pregant. thats what happened with my first child. good luck to you.

You really need to consult with your ob/gyn. There are many different factors to look at before you make this committment. He/she can help you to decide if this is best for you right now, especially if you are already having a difficult time. Please contact your doctor.
