I don't think so. I have a single Guinea Pig, Maxwell, and he's a sweetie, but he does seem lonely sometimes. I suggest that you just cuddle it alot and give it bundles of attention! But if you want to get a second one, it won't hurt. Guinea pigs ares o cute! I'm happy for you and am excited for you to enjoy the experience of caring for such aadorable things! GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS! =)
p.s. When you're buying bedding for you're porky pal, I highly recommend the recycled paper clump kindover wood chips. They are more absorbent , smell much better, and are much easier to clean out of the cage. I hope my advice helps you! =)

No your guinea pig will not die but it's always suggested to get two guinea pigs because they are herd animals. Instead of paying about $100 (just for the guinea pigs) in a pet store why not look on petfinder.com for guinea pigs in your area, sometimes they even have two pigs that need to go together. I found two lovely piggies off of petfinder (Simon and Paulie). The only money we had to pay for was a donation. Check out these sites (it's always good to do research before getting an animal)

If you get a second guinea pig, get the same gender as the one you have now! We made a mistake of getting a male and female guinea pig, and they breed like crazy! Within a couple of months, we had a total of 19 guinea pigs! We had such a hard time getting rid of them. . . Do not breed guinea pigs unless you don't mind having like 20 animals squealing every day.

Guinea pigs are social. Will he die from loneliness? possibly no longer, yet being social creatures the guinea pig will actual earnings from having a pal. Now, you are going to compliment to truly study guinea pigs in the past you purchase. maximum of what they permit you recognize in puppy shops approximately animals is in simple terms to make a sale. as an occasion, the guinea pig starter kit which you would be able to desire to be shown, which consists of a medium sized cage (small for a guinea pig)? That cage is going to be too small for a guinea pig.

Your guinea pig won't die, but it *might* get lonely. Guinea pigs are herd animals and they do best in groups. It keeps them happy having somewhere constantly there to provide an entertainment outlet.
However, I do know a lot of people who start out with one guinea pig and bond with it, and then they get a second one later on. It's up to you.

Guinea pigs will do okay on their own depending on how much attention they are getting from their human companions. If you work and are not around all day, then the pet will definitely need another one around to give it something to do all day or it will get terribly lonely. You cant leave him alone all day, but if someone will be there to keep him company then you will be fine.
Honestly, taking care of one guinea pig vs taking care of two is not that big of a deal as far as care goes. Youre going to have to feed him and change his water and litter either way, so if youre not going to be around its best to give him a companion.

Some guinea pigs can become depressed and die when they're alone. We tend to see it most in the rescue when one loses a cagemate to an illness.
Regardless of whether they would die or not, it's still not a good idea to keep guinea pigs alone, they're social animals, and they do better in pairs.
Think about it, you wouldn't die from having your arm removed, but it's still not a good idea.
