if dumbledore died (which im confused if he is actually REALLY dead or may come back since he's wise and strong and smart lol) and he ends up on the headmasters and headmistresses wall, wouldn't he still be able to speak to people?
because whenever harry goes up to dumbledores office (before he died) some of the headmistresses and headmaters would like talk to them. isnt it possible that he would still be able to talk to people when he's in his own potrait?? even though he's dead....
some people believe that he will come back into th 7th book but i dont believe so.... give me your theory and understanding please.

also whats with the look of triumph in dumbldores eyes when harry said that voldemort could touch him without hurting himself after the resurection of voldemort??

ty 4 all your help and happy new year for 2oo7

people i've found a site that shows theories and clues about dumbledore...
http://www.beyondhogwarts.com/harry-potter/articles/dumbledore-clues.html
lets not forget that dumbldore has a phoenix as a pet and through the chapters after dumbledores death, the phoenix 'fawkes' is singing. madam pomfrey is the hospital matron and it seems (its explained in the above mentioned site) that she knows what fawkes is doing. phoenix's have huge healing powers. he may be singing and by that making dumbledore better again.

on the website it also says that dumbledore must've known what was going to happen when they were going from hogsmeade on brooms. he told harry to put his invisibility cloak on and then when malfoy entered the room, he immobilised harry so quickly. apparently he wanted harry there disguised under his cloak so he could tell people bout the story of what happened. anyway, i might not be making sense so go to the site and you'll see what ii mean. i am confused about dumbledore..

I really think the author just wants to torture us an keep us guessing. She just left us hanging. And yes, you bring up a great point about the portrait thing. It seems very possible. But I have no idea why Dumbledore looked triumphant. Maybe it wasn't the real Dumbledore. Maybe it was one of Voldermorts cronies trying to get at Harry. So, maybe it really wasn't Dumbledore that Snape killed. Or maybe that is just wishful thinking.
I think Harry was too stupid with Dumbledore around anyway. Maybe now Harry can deflate his ego filled head and leave a little room for his brain to function.

Alas, yes, Dumbledore is dead. Depressing, but, didn't we all know it in our hearts that it would happen? But, ahhh, the portrait. Yes, the portrait will speak, many times or at least for a long time, to Harry, and maybe a little to the new headmaster/mistress. How else will Harry get through the year? Let's face it, he needs help. He is up against Voldemort, the now most magically powerfully known wizard in the world and harry is well....not all that knowledgable. I think that the talking portrait may even give the headmaster instructions to fetch Harry when he feels they need to talk.
And, if you read into the websights faithfully dedicated to the books, rumour has it that Alberforth Dumbledore is going to come in and play a large role. We know nothing about him, and as far as we know, he could know just as much as Albus Dumbledore and be able to help Harry along the way as well.
One last note...extremely famous headmasters/mistresses have portraits in more than one place. Think about the possibilities...

The touch? I am clueless! I know Voldemort could touch Harry, but, he could not posess him because Harry had so much love that Voldemort couldn't handle it, maybe it has something to do with love. Lily's love, to be precise. Not sure, just stirring up another idea.

In order for Dumbledore to come back to life, JKR would have had to make a mistake in the the plot. Snape made the unbreakable vow with Narcissa to do 3 things: protect Draco, assist Draco in his task, and finish the job if Draco failed. We all know that this task was to fascilitate Dumbledore's death. So if Draco failed, which he did, Snape would have to kill Dumbledore. If Dumbledore didn't die, Snape would have because the vow wouldn't be fulfilled. So Dumbledore had to die. There is a technicality that could allow him to return. The idea that Fawlkes could bring him back is possible. By this Snape would have still killed him, fulfilling the vow, and he returns to life via the phoenix. However, JKR has already said that Dumbledore will not be coming back. She makes good use of red herrings, but she wouldn't lie. Because of this, I believe Dumbledore is, and will stay, dead.
The gleam in his eyes at the end of GOF is very interesting and is one of my favorite loose ends to be tied up. I think it may have something to do with that Dumbledore knew of the horcruxes at that time. He knew what Harry would have to do to kill Voldemort. However, nothing could be done unless Voldemort was human again. Perhaps the goal was to make LV whole just so Harry could kill him. The prophecy would support this. Perhaps Dumbledore knew that in order for the prophecy to become true, LV would have to have his body back so he and Harry could fight.

This theory has holes though. First, if the horcruxes were destroyed before LV had his body back, wouldn't he
automatically die? His horcruxes would be gone, and he had no body. To me, that would be death. So that means they could have killed LV without anyone actually fighting him. Also, I don't believe LV will die in a traditional manner. I don't think JKR will turn Harry into a killer, even if it is LV. Somehow, LV will die at Harry's hand, but not by Avada Kedavra or any other brutally offensive spell (i.e. sectumsempra). Right now, I don't have any good ideas. It might involve the veil at the DoM. It may be that somehow Harry will turn LV's forces against him. There's an interesting editorial on mugglenet.com about this happening with the Dementors. It basically amounts to the Deatheaters having an army of Dementors and the Order with an army of patronuses (patroni?). The patronuses would protect the Order while the Dementors would seek out life to suck elewhere. The only others there would be the Deatheaters. I don't think this is likely though. Ultimately, Harry will not kill LV by standard definitions. He will cause LV's death though, and I think the gleam in Dumbledore's eyes has something to do with this.

1) JKR has confirmed that Dumbledore is dead and gone during an interview (you can check it out here: http://www.accio-quote.org/articles/2006/0802-radiocityreading2.html)

2) Yes, I think Harry will be able to speak with Dumbledore's portrait (it will proably give him advice and information on Snape and the Order) but it still won't be the actual Headmaster. It will be his essence but it's not exactly him so there might be only so much he will know. I think Dumbledore will have left behind his Pensieve to Harry, which will be far more informative.

3) The 'look of triumph' is something that fans have different theories on. For me, I think Dumbledore was pleased because by taking Harry's blood in GoF, Voldemort had set the prophecy in motion. He had become mortal and thus able to be killed by Harry.

For the first part of the question I will simply agree with what has been said before. Dumbledore really is dead according to J.K. Rowling herself, and I am certain the portrait will speak. Why shouldn't it? All the other portraits do...
As for the "Look of Triumph":
My Theory is that Dumbledore was greatly pleased with himself to find out that the "ancient magic" he had set up to give Harry protection when he was with his mothers sister had worked so effectively. Lord Voldemort himself said "even I can't touch him there". He had to include Harry into his whole resurrection ritual to be able to overcome Dumbledores (and Lili's, for that matter) protection and be able to touch him...
Maybe this theory is completely wrong, but hopefully we will find out within the year in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows!

First and foremost... Dumbledore is dead. J.K. Rowling has repeatedly said both in interviews and her website that he is gone. Finito. That's it for him. Dumbledore will not come back to a physical body in Deathly Hallows. It's just not going to happen.

As for the portrait, yes, his portrait will be able to communicate with others, just as the others do. However, when Harry was in the Headmaster's office after Dumbledore's death, Portrait Dumbledore was snoozing. It might take a while for the actual portrait to be able to communicate and move and such. Since we've never seen it happen before in any of the prior novels. I'm sure we'll be hearing from Portrait Dumbledore in book Seven. It's just a question of if he'll be able to talk to Harry about recent events that transpired in the event of his death. I wonder if he'll remember that Snape was the one who murdered him. I wonder if he'll remember about the Horcruxes. It'll be interesting to see.

The look of triumph in Dumbledore's eyes is "HIGHLY SIGNIFICANT", Jo Rowling has said. It could possibly be that he knows of a way to keep Harry alive for his final confrontation with Voldemort. We still don't know all the facts and I'm afraid all the theories in the world aren't going to help until the book is released. :) I'm anxiously awaiting to have all the answers with you.
