Do you think more people would suddenly become "upwardly mobile" if we stopped giving the poor handouts?
Instead of giving them money every month, what if we put them and their family into free welfare housing, gave them donated clothing, and delivered a case of MREs for food every week. I think a lot of these "I can't get a job" crybabies might look a little harder before they resign themselves to living on our tax dollars.

nostradamus20212- Could you enlighten me as to how a minor can accept a federal welfare check? I'm pretty sure all the "welfare children's" money goes to their parents, which all too aften doesn't get spent on the children.

u r assuming all people on welfare are lazy and don't want to work (stigma)..what about the elderly or disabled on welfare..what about single parents who make more sitting home than working and paying daycare ..For the record, I am disabled and am on "welfare"..it would take more money for the govt to put me into TOTALLY free housing, give me FREE MRE's once a week and donate me clothing than what I actually get from section 8 and food stamps.. (I get $30 worth of food stamps every month)..it buys me a lot of food. (I live on tv dinners, hot dogs, etc). I don't abuse the system at all. I wish the govt would give me enough money to buy steaks, shrimp, etc.. I don't even make enough to buy the meat and milk for the month..I eat very little fruit and no veggies..I can't afford it.. When my son was little, I was working full time (clearing $600 a month)..my daycare was almost $300 a month...that left a lot for rent, utilities, food, medical care..etc..DON"T assume that everybody on the "system" is a lazy bum and abuses it.. if you want to "reform" it concentrate on how to better get single parents a college education and decent daaycare and stop punishing them for trying to improve themselves..FYI..my disability check went up $10 last year..between food stamp decrease and rent increase..I am in the hole $8.. be thankful u don't have to worry about how to live every month

Welfare started in 1964 by the democrats, go figure, to essentially help out the elderly. Some how the elderly became a very large portion of black america, single mothers, and the elderly. If it was distributed as originally planned, it would still be a marginally good thing. However, when I see the crack mammies of america buying steak and such with food stamps, then breaking out cash and buying cigarettes and alcohol, along with their children wearing nothing but the best that Puma has to offer, or when I walk past 15 black guys who been sitting under the same tree doing nothing but making babies for years and have to arrest the only white dude in the area for non support, it pisses me off. On top of all that, the commercials on TV all of a sudden show all these well educated well to do black couples with happy children speaking proper english and I think to myself, where the hell are these people? In answer to your question, if you take away welfare as they have learned it to be, you will have riots worse than you have ever seen, because next to welfare and drugs, looting is the most lucrative profession these people are capable of.

finally it would desire to be the shoppers accountability due the mechanics of furnish and insist. If the buyer demanded larger welfare and boycotted meat that became no longer reared to this favourite then it would now no longer be produced. in spite of the undeniable fact that, it is relatively uncomplicated to make the suitable determination re: ethically sourced meat once you have a small retaining in Dorset and your very own television sequence. i might on no account darken a food market's doors back i've got I lived such as you Hugh, why might i might desire to? in spite of the undeniable fact that, once you survive a council belongings in between the main deprived factors of the rustic and you are the only one working on your loved ones as your companions lost his job because of the recession, it relatively is slightly harder to p.c. the £8 loose selection chicken from the butchers over the £3 one from the food market. I do attempt to take the extreme street and bypass to my butcher and despite i purchase I on no account throw any of it away, it is all used in stews and soups and frozen if i'm no longer able to think of what to do with it (even the bones for inventory) yet whilst i've got have been given £30 to outlive a week and a wintry climate gasoline invoice bobbing up it is not so minimize and dried as "Is animal welfare my accountability' and regrettably a £3 chicken will feed us for 3-4 days the comparable as an £8 one will.

Yes, the current welfare system definitely needs an overhaul. I have several ideas myself, but I like yours as well! Does anyone else see what some of these people are spending food stamps on? I once had someone offer to sell me theirs for $50 so he could buy drugs. How nice, my tax dollars hard at work!

A curious set of assumptions and sadly not particularly well informed.
As it turns out, many who are on welfare are children who are unable to work and most likely are going to low quality schools that will doom them to a fate of low expectations.
But I'd be all for eliminating welfare just as long as we were sure to eliminate the billions and billions of dollars each year given away (at the taxpayers expense) to wealthy and profitable corporations - who can't ship jobs out of America or locate offshore to dodge taxes fast enough.
American taxpayers subsidize oil companies (who have posted record profit month after month), tobacco companies and large corporate farms.
According to Harper's Index:
Minimum amount of USDA farm subsidies since 2000 that have been paid out to people who do not farm: $1,300,000,000 [Washington Post (Washington)]
Don't whine about poor people getting welfare when we are handing out $1.3 billion in farm subsidies to people who don't even farm.
Want to get Americans off welfare? Fine with me, but make sure that the corporations are also removed from the govt teet...

I totally agree with you!! We have all heard our share of welfare fraud stories and even seen these things happen personally and it really makes me mad! But for the ppl who really do need the help it would make me feel bad ... like we were penalizing them for being needy. Not all ppl are on welfare to screw the working public.

There are lots of jobs out there, except no body wants to work for next to nothing. But an illegal comes along and says yeah I will do it pay me. They are the bad guy...go figure. My favourite is the single mothers who cry poverty, but have their fake nails and hair extensions.
