It's just the opposite. During your period is the time when you are most likely to NOT get pregnant. (although it can be a little messy).
It is remotely possible that you may ovulate during your period (It is also possible to have triplets -but what are the odds?). Typically ovulation happens the 14th day before your period starts, if you're regular. For 28-days, that's day 14. Your period is usually days 1-7. The calculation is, sperm can wait up to maybe 5 days for Ms. Egg to show up, so sex is NOT recommended from day 9 to day 19 (in case your ovulation is a little late).
However, this does not prevent disease; and if you really don't want to be called "mommy", use something more effective than the calendar. The chat sites like this have lots of people who will tell you they got pregnant outside the "usual" window of probability.

Yes it is true that you CAN get pregnant when you are on your period. The uterine lining MAY be shedding but if you are ovulating, (and ovulation is NOT an exact science although there are people out there who want you to believe that it is), an egg CAN be fertilized and that is the start of pregnancy. Ovulation can occur at ANYTIME during a woman's cycle and can happen more than once during a cycle.

Yes you can get pregnant even while you are having your period.
It is possible to ovulate even though your period, the breakdown of the uterine lining, is going on. When you ovulate the egg is released into your falopian tubes this is the place where fertilization actually happens. It takes a few days for the egg to move through the tube and into your uterus where it will implant on your uterine wall.
Its rare, but it completely possible. If you dont want to be pregnant, use a condom, its the best protection against pregnancy as well as disease. (/end PSA)

Yes you can get pregnant!!!! It does not matter what part of your cycle you are in. You never know when an egg will be in your fallopian tube. Sperm can also live inside your body for 5-7 days. A friend of mine... no two friends of mine got pregnant while on their period because they thought you couldnt. If you are on the pill then its ok and you wont, but otherwise you can always get pregnant!

You can get pregnant while you have your period, especially if you have a short or irregular cycle. Sperm can survive for about three days (anywhere from 2-5) in the uterus. If you have sex during your period and ovulate early enough in your cycle you can get pregnant.

Providing your period is regular (every 28 days - give or take a day or two) then it is highly unlikely you can conceive while menstruating.
