I would search through sites like this
http://wwar.com/artists/index.html
http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/splash.htm
http://www.artic.edu/aic/collections/index.php

Or look up some of these artists

LeRoy Neiman
Philip Harris
Jenny Saville
Lucian Freud
Eric Fischl
Annette Lemierux
Gerhard Richter
Chuck Close
Leon Golub
Alice Neel
Philip Pearlstein
Janet Fish
gregory gillespie
william beckman
Egon Schiele
Ralph Goings
Charles Bell
...there are so many more. You might just want to buy an art history book...
but hey, the best way to learn how to paint is to just go at it. You don't need to copy other artists. The most exciting part about creating art is creating something that came solely from you. Put YOUR ideas and technique down on the canvas...not someone else's. Good luck!

There are all kinds of websites for art, drawing, painting etc., which you can find on the Internet. You can, if you want, also check out books on art; either at the library, or a bookstore. Clip art, etc..As far as painting check out Bob Ross, or Frank Clarke(The Joy of Painting and Simply Painting respectively). Also, there are many arts and crafts shows on PBS. DYI, HG, and other channels on television now.
