I did this once. I took it to my bank, and they told me to sign on the bank "not used for purposes intended" then I signed it and they deposited it into my checking account. So if I were you, I'd go to your bank and ask them how to deposit it.

First, Very Important....Do not alter the money order in anyway such as writing your name on it or trying to white it out.
Next, take it back to the place you purchased it from & on the back of the money order write " not used for purpose intended".
Only the place you purchased it at will negotiate it for you, however some places won't take back the money order at all. At this point you will need to file a money order replacement form from the company of the money order such as travelers express, etc. If you have to go this route more than likely there will be a fee for replacing your money order.
Good luck with that. :)

I purchased a money order, filled it out and then misplaced it. When I found it I wrote my name over the name that I was going to send it to and tried to deposit it in my checking account. They would not except it and told me to take it back to the place of purchase. They could not void it and refund my money. I called the money order company and was told that I would have to fill out a claim form and it would take aprox. 30 days before I would get a check back from them. Next time I will buy from the post office.

Hopefully you havent filled it out, because then you can just write it out to yourself, but if you have filled it out to someone else you will need the receipt that you got with it and preferably go back to the place it was purchased. Good luck.

If you still have your recipt than you can try to bring it back to where you purchased it. Tell them what happened and they would propably give you a refund. Good Luck :)
