Gift certificates are already paid for, it just seems wrong that they have an expiration date.

my friend got a gift certificate 2 a barber's shop that expired! u can only get so many haircuts in a month!!

wat kind of a person gives gift certificaes to a barber's shop in the first place?!

In Canada, they're passing a law that gift cards cannot have an expiry date. That's my understanding, anyways.

The one reason, from my understanding is that of the accounting hassles. People forget to use them, only portions of the dollar value are used and then they discard the remaining balance.

Maybe to give the stores system names and purchases to drop after a certain time to make new room for newer accounts.
