My mom thinks my makeup is too much. I think its juste fine. I'm confused and i wanted to know your answer.
I wear foundation makeup, mascara, green or blue or black eyeliner, lipgloss, and sometimes eye shadow of color green or pale blue and sometimes black.
Is this too much makeup? If yes what should I change?

First I must say that you're lucky to have a mom that cares enough about your appearance to let you know her opinion. I used to work for a major makeup company and here's some tips that I hope help.

1.Foundation: "IS NOT FOR COVERAGE" it is to just even out the complexion, it should be matched to the neck(so you don't get that pumpkin or Kaboki face. For blemishs, scares, or acne use a "Cream Concealer".(Green for acne, green cancels red).YOU MUST MAKE SURE YOUR FOUNDATION IS A PERFECT MATCH, this can be acheived with any brand! Especially caucasian women, your skin color range is only 12 shades. FIND THE PROPER COLOR FOUNDATION!!

2. Powder "IS NOT FOR COVERAGE OR COLOR",but to simply set your make-up. Role your powder brush in the powder and tap 2 times, then apply.

3. CREAM to Powder(Pancake makeup or all in one), is great for full coverage but can be easily overdone because it is ALL IN ONE! It's best for night time, but rarely looks natural in day time.

4.Eyeliner- Try a dark brown instead of black(it will soften your look).
b.NEVER NEVER NEVER on the top and bottom(just the top will do) Cleopatra has been dead for awhile sweetie. Eyeliner underneath is ok for night out looks, smokey eyes, or that club glam, but doesn't really look good for a day look.

OVERALL: Remember "BB" Blend and Balance
a.If you have on a dramatic eye shadow or colorful then do a simple lip, like just a gloss or a stain.

b. Sexy Pouty Lip , then do a simple eyeshadow neutral of soft.

c.Celebrity looks and Runway looks are FOR THE MAGAZINES AND RED CARPETS AND ARE DONE BY PROFESSIONALS! DON"T TRY THEM AT HOME!!!

d.Shimmer and Dewey: This look is great. IF YOU HAVE PERFECT OR NEAR PERFECT SKIN. Shimmer and shine will highlight ever zit or pimple on your face. For skin with conditions, the Matte look is best, but shimmer can be applied to the cheeks and eyes:)

e.STAY AWAY FROM CLASH COLORS, ie Green and Black, Brown and Orange Green and Blue! These look great in editorials and magazines and when done by PROFESSIONALS,or a skilled wearer, but you can go a little clownish if you're just experimenting.

I'm sure you're beautiful w/o the makeup. You wear the makeup ,don't let the makeup wear you. Makeup is to enhance beauty not cover it. Let people notice you, you don't wan to be known as the school parrot!

Go to a Sephora or Ulta in your area, they offer free makeover and ask one of the assistants to help you acheive a fun,but natural look.

I'm not sure, but if you are woman of color. Colors can be very difficult and tricky and it is best if you consult a professional.

I hope this helped and give your mom a hug, because she just wants what's best for you.

To get a brutally honest answer ask friends, especially guys. Your mom is sometimes right for the most part and maybe it's how you're blending it or where exactly it's located. Like this girl I work with: she extends her eyeliner literally more than an inch past where the corner or her eye ends. I don't know her too well and I don't want to hurt her feelings but I get the urge to give her a make over on how to apply her eyeliner. People probably want to take me aside and give me a makeover, too. It helps to get an honest opinion from as many people that you truly trust.
Read Cindy Crawford's book on makeup and the late, great Kevyn Aucoin's books. Bobbi Brown is someone you should read on. All their books are at Barnes and Nobles. On your eye makeup don' take the colors past the eye lid crease and use a pale, pale version of your "theme" color as the shadow from the crease to almost your brow. Also, before you apply anything after foundation (applied w/ the ring finger) dust your face w/ loose powder. Again, read the books I recommended and get to know the mantra of "blend, blend, blend."
Blue, green and black are okay colors and you can wear any color but it is always going to be how you apply it and where. A good rule to live by is wash your face and moisturize before you go to bed and when you wake up and shower, exfoliate and rinse your face off with cold water. Use a good astringent and then, when you're putting on makeup moisturize, put on some light sunscreen then the foundation, the loose face powder and then whatever eyeshadow you're putting on. Also, if you live in a humid climate use a clear mascara on the lower lashes and focus the face powder around the eyes. I also recommend using a golden or shimmery brown metallic color as an eye liner as well as shades of purple. Revlon cream eye shadows applied with a lip liner brush is a great subtle eye liner.

The way you describe it, that could either be really nice and flattering or really trashy.

This is my guess. usually Mom's think girls are wearing too much makeup when either they're foundation is too heavy or their eyes are too dark.

I know it's not what you want to hear, but if your mom thinks you're wearing too much, you probably are.

These are my suggestions:

Wear a lighter foundation. If you're young enough to still be at home, you don't really need heavy foundation and infact you might be hurting your skin by doing so. Try a tinted mousturizer or just wear concealer on the trouble spots and blend it in very well, maybe with a little powder on top to control shine.

Do not do a think line with your eyeliner. Try a thinner or a lighter colored liner. You want it to kind of look natural, not dramatic. Stick with the green or blue, forget the black.

When using eye shadow, just sweep a little over the bottom of the lid. It doesn't need to be up to your eye brow or anything!

Good luck!

Thats basically normal but I guess it depends on how many layers of lipgloss, mascara, eyeliner, and eyeshadow. Theres nothing wrong with looking natural. You can look that way by using some make-up too. Only use cover-up or foundation where it needed. You dont have to cover and cake that whole face with it. Just use it on that spots that has a pimple, blemish, or scar. You can just use like 2-3 layers of mascara. They eyeliner can look dramatic if its real dark. Lipgloss is neutral I think, unless its colored... colored like pink, brown or red. Real colors I think should be used if its for an occastion or if it goes with a cool outfit. Otherwise go neutral and natural just to give alittle gloss or shine. Eyeshadow should be noticeable but not like caked on.

In my opinion if you like it that's all that matters. You could be wearing alot to 1 person or a little to another person. Everyone is different. Ive gone through so many phases in my life. From wearing pictures painted on my face to absolutely no makeup on my face. Do what makes you feel good. All though I will say that usually guys don't like much makeup. So if your asking because your worried about how guys see you just remember that. And along with that guys might think a really pretty girl with lots of makeup on doesn't have any on if they apply it right. If your just asking in general again do what you like. Hope that helps a little. Good luck!

I'm not sure, I'd have to see you to tell. But, I say that your makeup looks best when it looks like you're not even wearing any. The point is, if you're worried alot by it, then you probably do have too much on. I just wear lip gloss, a little mascara, and concealer. Not too much, but just enough to make people think, "Wow, she looks better than usual today, but I can't tell what changed!" A healthy glow is all you want.

it all depends. are you happy and comfortable with the make-up you're wearing? if the answer is yes, then I think you should wear it, and be happy. make-up is something to experiment with, express yourself with, have fun with, change, etc. and it all washes off at the end of the day!
I have a ton of make-up! and some days I want a natural look, other days I want a dramatic look. I wear what I like, and what my husband likes. I have huge blue eyes, and really full lips, and my husband loves it when I wear red lipstick, black eye liner, and black mascara. everyone's opinion is different. you just have to do what you feel comfortable with, and what makes you happy!
Best Wishes and Happy New Year!

Your mom could be saying you're wearing too much make up 'cause of the eyeshadow. I've used bold colored eyeshadow.. (black/dark gray for the smokey eye look) and my aunt liked it but my mom.. who is waaay conservative said I looked like a vampire.

You probaly look fine if you were going out, but for a normal every day look.. then just easy off the eyeshadow and use natural colors.. depending on your skin/eyes. Maybe with something like glittery pastel colors or just brown shades.

Yes. What you could do is instead of getting rid of any of your make-up go to a Merle Norman store and let them show you how to apply the make-up you have the right way. Could be your eyeliner is on too think and the colors you use for your eye shadow are just not right for you. But before I got rid of any of it, I would go and let someone like Merle Norman do a make over on me so I could see my mistakes. Make-up is to enhance your features and give you a nicer look. But often younger ladies get too much of one thing or two things on way too much which then only makes them look made-up instead of being natural. Also look at your prettist actresses, look how natural they look and learn from them too. Just keep in mind that their pictures are often air brushed to look better for a photo, but their still really nice to learn from.
