I don't quite understand it, is he supposed to be dead?

You have to watch it several times to really get it. This is my take, His mom stood by him all his life no matter what he did, drugs etc..., and she leaves a message for him on the phone checking on him, she then dies and he never gets a chance to talk to her again. He's saying I would rather she hate me than for me to hurt her with all my bad behavior and making her worry his whole life.

No, his mother died and hes got the answering machine that she spoke her last message to him on. The video is about the hell he put his mother through (The one thing that tore us apart is the one thing ill never touch again) when he was doing whatever it was he was doing.I think the song is for all drug addicts who are trying to make amends to the people that they love.

He never did anything for her,but she did everything she could for him.
He is telling her to hate him because of all the hell he put her through.
And wants to take it all back.
In the video,all the different scenes w/him & his mother are his memories.
And no,he's not supposed to be dead.
He just wants to make things right,but it's too late.

Its written for the lead singers mother. He had a major drug addiction and she stuck by him. He is telling her to stop worrying about him and move on with her life he is a lost cause.

He feels bad for never helpin his mom out when she needed him, but no matter what, she always helped him and always put him first. But when he realized what he did, it was too late, and there was nothing he could do to change it.

Nonono!!! It says how a girl has helped him through tough times, and he thinks he should have helped her too. He thinks that he has made her worse because she had to help him...so he says "Hate me for all the things I didn't do for you." Its a pretty good song! =)
