I'm in high school and I'm a Muslim. I wear the headscarf called a hijab so you can kinda always pick me out in a crowd and know I'm a Muslim. Anyways, I was sitting at my lunch table and one of the lunch para's/aid comes up to me and asks me "I wanted to ask you a questions PERSOANLLY. What do you think of Saddam being executed?" She didn't even say Saddam Hussein, just Saddam like I just HAVE to know who he is. I do know, but I'm just saying. She asked me this when IT WAS FIRST said that Saddam was to be executed (I think in late November.) And I'm just sitting there like, "what?" It took a while to even figure out what she was talking about. I hadn't read the newspaper so I didn't know what she meant but as soon as I figured out, I was like "Um i dunno." I was so shocked that I didn't get to say what I really wanted to say which was "Why are you asking me?" Does anyone besides me and my friends think this is a racist comment?

I"m sorry that someone was cruel and un-thinking towards you. The comment was really very un-called for, but this person probably was very interested in your take on the subject, and didn't think that he/she was being rude.

Saddam Hussein is a man who will go down in history and is very much the subject on most peoples minds, currently.

I am not sure if you are in the United States or in another country, but here in the United States, Saddam Hussein is very much an open topic with just about everyone.

Your religion should have no basis what-so-ever for people to approach you and feel that they can just start up any kind of a conversation, but unfortunately, alot of people feel that since they are aware that you are Muslim, they just seem to take it for granted that you are available to give your opinion on the subject.

As for being racist - well, I really don't feel that the conversation was directed that way, but if I was in your place, yes, I probably would feel that way.

Have a lovely rest of the evening. Bright Blessings.

I feel like it was probably an ignorant/innocent comment. Many people in the US are familiar with Iraq and the fact that it is a Muslim country. She probably just thought you might have an opinion since a leader of a Muslim country was being executed and you are obviously Muslim. Perhaps she doesn't realize that all Muslims aren't from Iraq. Who knows? I honestly think it was just an innocent question.

I don't think it was racist...merely curiously ignorant of her. She was an aide? Not a teacher, right?
She probably "assumed" because you wear the scarf you know all about Saddam and his country. I believe most people in the US don't know much about muslim, islam, mormons, quakers, hindu religions and some even think catholics are a cult. Your answer was honest and appropriate to such a tactless question.

Racist? I'm not sure, most likely it is. COMPLETELY inappropriate - absolutely and without a doubt. I really would mention it to the school's administration. There is no reason you should be singled out like that, especially by a staff member. If it were another student, I'd just think he was an idiot.

You wear a scarf to point yourself out as a Muslim. Then get insulted when someone asks for your perspective as a Muslim.Loosen up,the person was a boob for annoying you at lunch, probably nothing more.By the way when did Muslims become a separate Race?

I'm sorry that you had to go through this. Most of the views a person expresses in high school are usually influenced by their parents. Don't take it to heart they are probably just parroting what they hear at home. Just ignore the ignorant.

It was not racist. I think it is good that on a subject concerning an ethnic group, she stopped to inquire from a person of that ethnicity of their viewpoint. By requesting an answer from you she has a larger focal point of the surrounding issue. Questions like this prevents ignorance.

Simple truth is that it is not a racist comment. She might have asked just to know the fact. She probably thought that you would be knowing.

Grow up and stop your whining. It was not a racist comment. Would it have been racist if they were muslim like you. If all you have to do is play a race game maybe you need to go back where you came.
