An automatic tailgate is power operated. You push a button (either on the dash or on a remote control), and it opens and closes itself!

You push a button, usually on the ceiling, and the tailgate goes up automaticaly. The Nisson Quest has this feature and so do some Chrysler minivans. Also, they normally have electric sliding side doors also.
