Leaves have a huge floor area, as a thanks to maximise the area avaliable to utilise chlorophyll. on the suitable they're quite dry yet below they're waxy. This serves to minimise water loss even as the stomata close or open. also, the chlorophyll (which resources leaves their shade) will react with carbon dioxide and water to create starch and different sugars.
