I think combining 2 of people's greatest fears (snakes, planes) was actually quiet clever. Maybe not an Oscar winning movie but a popcorn movie at its best! Some movies are made for nothing more than pure entertainment. No message required! Then, some movies (well most) have their message to deliever and the plot unfolds as the message unfolds. Popcorn movies are made to 'help us escape' on a sunny afternoon or a weekend night. Then, when we're brought back to reality, we're not thinking about what we just saw in the sense of the movie's 'message'. Instead, we can just smile and re-enter the real world with a little less frustration than when the lights went down. (in the theatre, that is) ;-)

I went to go see Snakes on a Plane just for fun. It was actually much better than I thought it would be. There's more to it than just - a CIA agent gets on a plane and then there are snakes. It had funny parts and you can't tell the real snakes from cgi. Good movie to trip out on. At least it wasn't a remake.

I think it was meant to be slightly silly like that- a cult classic that knows it's going to be a cult classic. I haven't seen it, nor care to, but I don't think it's supposed to make much sense. The plot is rather loose- it's all a set-up so that you can get two really cool elements together: a plane (an enclosed space with nowhere to go) and killer snakes (always fun). And of course so you can set up Samuel Jackson's famous line: "I'm sick of these motherf*cking snakes on this motherf*cking plane!".
I hope to God that the makers of the movie didn't think they were making cinematic gold . . . but fully knew it was a lame movie idea with some cool characters, cool lines, okay CG effects, and mild thrills. A B-movie, plain and simple, where the fun comes from the cheesiness.
The question I'd rather ask is why anybody would sign on to be part of movies like this- particularly Samuel L. Jackson, a man I respect so much!

At least it wasn't a remake. There's enough good books out there that you'd think they could make something decent but nooo.

In all honesty a imaginative recommendations targeting spoof comedy would desire to tutor any good quickly image good right into a hilarious romp. i think of of the undertaking with spoofs as off previous due is that studios bounce the gun to make a right now dollar. the extensive form one rule inspite of the incontrovertible fact that's that in case you will mock a action image it is going to probable be funnier then the source textile. i could advise averting effective comedies like Borat, through fact for my section the humor would desire to in no way be crowned. in any case, i'd desire to maintain going, yet i flow to purely make a suggestion, and that i make an apology if this answer is a sprint long. How approximately spoofing especially not humorous "spoof action photos" like Epic action image, Date action image, and Meet the Spartans. All you may would desire to opt to do is write a action image that wasn't humorous indoors the smallest adventure and you'd be golden. i'm guessing the best judgment in the back of the investment of those spoof duds is that perchance the attempt to maintain that form of comedies alive. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, they're purely shoveling airborne dirt and dirt on the coffin mutually through fact the guy remains pounding, and screaming "hi i'm ALIVE DOWN good right here!" i'd desire to opt to supply credit to diverse team of persons in touch with the "frightening action image" action photos that weren't in fact meager assistants, who then signed onto that diverse spoof sequence(That way the publicists would desire to function onto the labeled classified ads, and trailers " from somewhat some the person men that presented you....". ). Atleast they actually make it appear like they actually desire to make you giggle. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that some is hit, mutually as maximum is omit. this is sickening to return out of a action image, to adventure robbed, and psychologically raped from the appropriate ninety minutes of your life(human beings in the back of Date action image, Epic action image, and Meet the Spartans i'm watching YOU, particular i'm imparting you with the finger, mutually as downloading your trash putting it on DVD, and handing it out for unfastened to any undesirable fool bored adequate to flow to the theater to pay on your excrement!).
