If the odds makers say your team should win by 10 points, but you make misplays so you only win by 7 points, that is "shaving points". That way those that bet you will win by less than 10 win their cash and pay off the offending players.

Point shaving, in organized sports, is a type of match fixing where the perpetrators try to prevent a team from covering a published point spread. Unlike other forms of match fixing, sports betting invariably motivates point shaving. A point shaving scheme generally involves a sports gambler and one or more players of the sports team favored to win the game. In exchange for a bribe, the player or players agree to ensure that their team will not cover the point spread. The gambler then wagers against that team.

It means a player holding back on scoring. Not asking him to lose the game, but just stay within a certain margin of points with his opponent.
Let's say that a basketball game has Team A favored to win by 10 points over Team B.
A player on Team A would be asked to shave points to stay within that 10 point margin. He still will try to win the game.

Partner is a term used to describe a relationship mate and describes their other half in general terms ,and gender is open to interpretation. Partner can be used as a non sexist term. She may feel easier saying her partner rather than shock others by stating which gender she is in relationship with. Some couple straight couples use this same term "partner" so that they both feel they are equals in the marriage. Your friend has probably received bad or rude comments when or if she said relationship is with another girl. And by saying partner it is her private life she is keeping private.

Offensively a player purposefully messes up plays to keep their team from scoring. Defensively a player doesn't stop the opposing team from scoring, or doesn't try their hardest on a play which helps the opposing team advance the ball (football) or give them a scoring chance.
