The Last Train, they repeat it every so often on either UK gold or the Sci Fi channel or some channel like that, the last time was last month.

I think it was called "The last train"

It was about an asteroid hitting earth & the far reaching effect it had right across the globe.
The series begins with a group of ordinary people going about their daily lives, with them all eventually finding themselves on the train that is due to leave London for Sheffield.
One of the characters (a government technician) is aware of what's going to happen, (Asteroid hitting the earth) and is desperately trying to get to what was simply known as "Ark"

The train enters a tunnel at the same time the asteriod hits earth... The government technician (Harriet Ambrose) had a canister of freezing agent which as a result got ruptured and the passengers all enter a state of cryogenic hibernation. This magic fairy dust protects some of them during the long sleep that they fall in to. When they finally wake up they leave the train to discover a very different world to the one before the asteroid hit...

ooooh! Please tell me I got it right...

Aww, The Last Train! I'd love to see that again. It was a bit rubbish really, but the concept was good. I lived in Sheffield at the time, and it was worth it just to see Sheffield in ruins, with giant jungle plants growing through Manor Top.

Amita Dhiri (Milly from This Life) was in it, I remember, and her character was a really whiny single mother...
