Rainy Day Kitty Cat has no idea what he is talking about. The goverment has never had problems with dimes. The 1942 dime on Ebay may be the 1942/41 die variety, if so it is scarce. Even in high mint state the regular 1942 dime retails for less than $70.00. Coins have gone up in price over the years, so now, so called investors are trying to make a quick buck. They have no idea what they are doing and in the end will lose money. You have common coins that are not scarce so are not worth a lot.It would have been nice to have listed the date of the Indian cent as well as the others. Who knows you may have an 1877 Indian. Coins are a lot of fun and I do make money as a collector, but I also have read many books on the subject and know my coins. I stay away from Ebay, to many coins to go through and a lot of them are fakes. Ebay does not police itself right and coin collector groups, as well as antique groups are having issues with them. Keep your coins they can only go up in value as time passes. It is also against the law at this time, to sell cents or nickels to be melted. The mint just put the clamp down the other day.

The 1942 Mercury dime is so much because in 1941 or 1942 there was a boycott on dimes. So the US government not wanting to waste the unused dimes restamed some of them. So some Dimes from 1941 are restamped with the year 1942. These are the expensives one the regular mercurary dimes are not worth that much below 10$ but the restamped ones can go for hundards.

I have Pisces Mercury in the 3rd House. Mercury in the 3rd House This is an especially curious and inquisitive position for Mercury. You are generally very interested in reading, teaching, speaking, exchanging ideas, keeping current with the daily news, and perhaps gossiping. Your interests are many and varied, sometimes to the point that you barely skim the surface of any one topic. You are also very easily distracted and your attention span can be quite short. Quick to learn, you are also swift to share what you know with others. You can be very talkative when you have the chance. You can be a list maker, and often are quite involved in your community. Some of you can be quite nervous or fidgety. Aside from the last two sentences I think it does describe me.

First the Lincoln "steel" penny. If you are referring to the ones made during WWII, I believe they are lead, and most of them worth very little. As to any other coins in general, it's not only the type and condition, but the exact year they were minted in, the mint they came from, the defects (if any), and so on. Your best bet is to take them to a coin dealer that is willing to look at them, or take the time to look them up in a coin book. But unless you are quite knowledgeable in coins, there's a big margin for error doing it yourself.

I agree with "taiping".But if you feel the need to sell-go to a dealer, most of them are honest. If you aren't get a second opinion.I found some of the coins I thought were valuable -were really "common"meaning they are not scarce or rare. The one on ebay-who knows for certain it even happened.I bid for a dish on ebay once-someone kept going up$5.00.I found out later some dealers do that themselves.Go to a dealer or even the library to find out.

well the whole thing about EBay is that it is based on what someone is willing to spend on it. It's the law of supply and demand.

it has been my experience on e-bay that if someone wants something it can go for much more than its worth, and some times you can get some great buys. trust "Taiping" he knows what he is talking about.
