Benedict's test ,would tell only whether the sugar is reducing or not.--Gluocose/ Fructose/ Maltose /Lactose all will give Benedict's positive.Confirmatory test is Paper or Thin layer Chromatography.But it needs elaborate equipment arrangement.

Laboratory safety? Why don't they ask what Benedict's solution is...that sounds more useful.

Anyway...test-tube tongs?

well you definitely need goggles if youre going to be in the lab. you will need mitts, tongs and possibly gloves to remove the hot glassware. maybe a lab apron to protect from chemical splashes.
