Use/get a swing or a bouncer that vibrates. It will sooth her to sleep. Or try a baby sling or a front carrier, if you don't want to put her down. You can lay her down in the sling/carrier when she falls asleep.

My lil neice now 6 mons old never slept. She would only take like 10 min lil naps at a time. But she had to be awake every little bit to see what was going on LOL. And she was like this ever since the day she was born. You know how most people say that babies sleep most of the time. Well not my lil neice she was awake all the time. But the only way my sis-in-law can get her to sleep for long periods of time is to lay down beside her until she gets to sleep.

It's good that she is sleeping through the night for the most part, but having a baby who is awake most all day can be stressful. Try a boucy seat, a swing, or even just letting her cry it out for a few minutes in another room, even of it's just for 10 minutes. There are times when you need to rest during the day too. I'm not saying just let her scream, but giving her a few minutes at a time by herself will help her in the long run to allow you some space for yourself. best of luck!

The crying it out method is good for an older baby but at 5 weeks they just won't get it. A sling, baby Bjorn, swing or boucy seat is the way to go. You gotta do dishes, eat and do laundry sometimes right? My beastly son would only take a handful of 15 minute naps at that age so I know what a hassle it can be. I would just have to wear him or put him in a bouncy seat where he could see what I was doing. My daughter was a swinger and would snooze quite nicely in her swing while total chaos was around.

My son was the same way up until he was about 5 months old. There's nothing wrong with a baby wanting to be up during the day. Some baby's sleep more than others, but if she's not tired then let her stay awake. As long as she's getting at least one nap a day, and eating well then there really isn't anything to worry about. She just curious and doesn't want to miss anything. But if your really concerned about her sleeping habits then you can always consult your doctor.

I had the oppasite problem with my son... he'd sleep all day and be up all night. Try controlled crying? I hated doing this, but after a day or two (of hell), he got the picture, that it was time to sleep. At 5 weeks, the do need alot of sleep. or maybe Try getting a swing... I found them excellent when he was restless (always at dinner time). With my son I had one that i had to push, but for the one on the way i have a battery operated one.
Good Luck!

I am dealing with the same thing right now.
She doesn't want to sleep at night and only takes short naps during the day. Once she gets to sleep at night she is ok for five hours or so.
I would say its normal for them to want to stay up during the day. I would also think she should be taking another nap in the after noon/early evening.
My mom says start a routine. Do the same things every day so they can expect it will happen. And even if she don't fall asleep it wont hurt for her to lay in her bed.

I'm not a mom but I've observed my nephew who is the same age. I got him a teddy bear that you can put in his crib or baby seat (whichever you're using right now) and if you crank the back of it; the bear makes the sounds of the mothers womb. It's a lifesaver. the entire time he was here he was like the perfect baby... he slept enough and he liked the feel of the bear when he was awake so it kept him pretty quite. I hope I helped. good luck and congratulations on the new baby girl!

My second child was this way. She didn't take naps when she was a tiny baby, and she still doesn't (she's almost four). She's just never been a sleeper. Even at night, she wakes up at the slightest sound. But she's a very intelligent, normal child in every way. Don't worry, all children are different. Yours just may not be a sleeper.

Probably not what you want to hear, but welcome to your daughters personality. My daughter was the same way!! Only backward, we had days and nights mixed up for the first 4 weeks, and then it totally switched until about 5 months old. I always thought that it is just that she is too interested in her mommy and learning about her new world to want to miss anything. Unless she is overtired and miserable, it isn't anything to worry about.
